Ryan Seacrest can’t help but spin into a frenzy of excitement as he preps to take over for the “legendary” Pat Sajak as host of Wheel of Fortune next season. Despite his seemingly stacked resume of hosting gigs, the tenured American Idol host knows not to mess with the game show that has become a household institution.

“With this game show, it’s such a success and has been for generations,” Seacrest told People at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on Friday (Sept. 22) in Las Vegas. “You don’t mess with it, just don’t mess with it. Just get out of the way, say ‘Good evening’ and let’s play.”

Seacrest highlighted his “excitement” to the outlet, which he said is a result of WoF being “such a phenomenal show.”

“I’ve been a fan,” he continued. “I grew up watching the show and I can’t wait to take over after the legendary Pat Sajak.”

Seacrest also revealed that he and his future co-host Vanna White, who he deemed “the most lovely person,” have “text[ed] recently.”

“We’ve known each other for a long time, and I think we both feel excitement about all of this,” he added.

Seacrest has been thrilled about his upcoming hosting gig since he was announced as Sajak’s successor in July. Seacrest has long been a fan of WoF, and said he has appreciated watching Sajak’s final season alongside White.

“And also, just to watch Pat and Vanna celebrate their final year together after 40-plus years co-hosting that show, it’s history in the making,” he said.

He also recently told the hosts of Good Morning America that he’s been practicing for his big debut in his living room.

“I’m shouting out the puzzles and my dog is staring at me,” he quipped.
