At the start of Gerry Turner’s Golden Bachelor journey, he was largely fueled by faith — faith in the process, in his ability to find another life partner, and in the belief that you’re never too old to fall in love. By the end of Night 1 all those beliefs still held true, but the 72-year-old found renewed faith in contestant — wait for it — Faith Martin.

After kicking the night off with 22 sparkling senior women arriving in limos, Turner had to say painful goodbyes to six contestants, including Bachelor Matt James’ mom. He handed out 16 roses over the course of the premiere, but as members of Bachelor Nation know, one of the stems held more meaning than the rest: the first impression rose.

If you’ve watched the highly-anticipated premiere, you know that Faith Martin, a 61-year-old high school teacher from Benton City, WA snagged the first impression rose. So who is Faith Martin on The Golden Bachelor? How did she get Turner’s first impression rose? And how long does she stick around this season? Here’s everything we know about Faith, including a recap of her first night with her golden guy.

Who Got Gerry Turner’s First Impression Rose On The Golden Bachelor? Meet Faith Martin

According to her official ABC bio, “Faith is much more than meets the eye.” The intro paragraph goes on to say, “Not only is she beautiful, but she’s also charismatic, adaptable, and looks for the positive in every situation.” The 61-year-old high school teacher has two sons and four grandkids, and is “a woman of many talents, which she continues to do professionally – like radio hosting, teaching and singing.” She’s also described as “a fun thrill-seeker” who’s “checked many goals off her bucket list, like diving with sharks, riding a motorcycle, and getting a tattoo.” At the end of the day, Faith is looking for a partner who’s up for some adventure, and — oh yeah — she has three fun facts:

  • Faith loves riding her horse, Liberty, through the mountains.
  • Faith would love to be in a band.
  • Faith hates technology that doesn’t consistently work.

On Night 1, Faith rode up to the mansion on a motorcycle, whipped off her helmet and leather jacket, and told a giggling Gerry, “I’m proof that you can live fast and not die young. And if you leave here with me, it’ll be the ride of your life.”

In her intro video, she described herself as a “funmonger” who enjoys rollerblading, horseback riding, swimming, and anything that looks fun. She explained she was married for 21 years but got divorced in 2005, and though seniors “may not be as tight skinned or as good of shape,” she comically told the camera, “I’m not dead yet.

When Faith and Gerry finally got some alone time, she pulled out her guitar, played him a song, and sang. He told her she was “really very attractive” and she complimented his calming demeanor. After the “gorgeous” song, Gerry told her “you had me right from the get-go,” and when she asked him how he wanted to spend his next 30 years, he said, “a little bit of this would be just about right.” SWOON!

After host Jesse Palmer brought the first impression rose out, Gerry grabbed it and asked Faith to accompany him to a couch. “I want you to know that you made this impression not because you rode in on a motorcycle or have a beautiful voice and sang a song to me, but because of what you’re doing right now — making me feel very special,” he told her. Faith accepted the rose, said it represents hope that they could create something beautiful together, and the kissing commenced.
