ABC News’ chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl’s new book, titled Tired of Winning, reveals that Donald Trump and Kim Kardashian once shared a tense conversation over the phone that did not go too well.

According to excerpts from the book published by Axios, Kardashian reached out to the former U.S. president near the end of his term to see if he would support more prison sentence commutations before his presidency ended.

Karl reports that a source familiar with the conversation said Trump “demanded a straight-up quid pro quo” from the reality star. He said he would grant more commutations if she could convince football players “who were friends of hers” to visit the White House.

The book goes on to claim The Kardashians star actually tried to convince some players to make appearances at the White House because she saw “it as a small price to pay to get justice for people she believed were serving unjust sentences.” They all declined.

Karl wrote, “Trump had become too toxic. In the final two weeks of his presidency, nobody wanted to be anywhere near him.”

But, months later, Kardashian reached back out to Trump after he left the White House. She requested that he help her with another plea for clemency.

Karl’s book claims the president refused, telling her, “You voted for Biden and now you come asking me for a favor?” As the book notes, Kardashian has not publicly shared who she voted for in the 2020 election, but she showed support on social media for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris after they won.

“After a few more choice words, the line went dead. Trump had hung up on her,” Karl wrote.

Per Axios, a spokesperson for Trump slammed Karl’s reporting, calling the Washington correspondent “a back bencher who could never get his own show for obvious reasons.” Their statement claims the excerpts have already been “thoroughly debunked.”

The Trump spokesperson’s statement continued, “This filth either belongs in the discount bargain bin in the fiction section of the bookstore or should be repurposed as toilet paper.”

Kardashian previously met with Trump at the White House to discuss commuting prison sentences for certain candidates. She also helped champion Alice Johnson’s commutation, which was granted by Trump in 2018.

This is the third book Karl has written about the Trump presidency. Tired of Winning will be available on stands tomorrow, Nov. 14.
