Drew Barrymore started partying it up with the Brat Pack at an early age. On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Andie MacDowell remembered meeting the talk show host at the St. Elmo’s Fire premiere party when she was only 10 years old.

It all started when Barrymore revealed that her 11-year-old daughter Frankie wants to be an actress like her mom. However, the star said she “won’t let” her two children get into the industry now because they “have to be kids and grow up,” which reminded MacDowell of the first time she met Barrymore.

“You were a child actress,” she pointed out. “I remember — oh, my gosh. The first time I saw you — I just forgot about that. You came to a party. You were a child. You came to the St. Elmo’s Fire party.”

Barrymore confirmed that she “sure did” attend the party, noting that she was only 10 years old at the time the movie premiered in 1985, while MacDowell and the rest of the cast were well into their twenties.

“What were you doing there?” MacDowell asked, to which Barrymore replied, “Partying.”

The actress also admitted that Emilio Estevez, who starred as Kirby in the iconic coming-of-age film, was her “first slow dance” at Rob Lowe‘s birthday party.

In the end, both Barrymore and MacDowell agreed that Hollywood isn’t necessarily a good place for children.

“I don’t know about you but I worked with kids and it’s really a job. It’s a job. I just wanted them to have whatever a normal life is,” the model said about her own kids, while Barrymore added, “Everything you’re saying is making me feel so validated for my choices.”

It’s no secret that Barrymore has had a far from normal upbringing.

The actress previously revealed that she started drinking by the age of nine and using drugs like marijuana and cocaine by the age of 12. The following year, she got her first tattoo, before her mother ultimately forced her into a rehab facility. When she was 14, she became emancipated from her parents.
