A month after dominating the Emmys with ten wins, Christopher Storer’s critically-acclaimed FX series The Bear is cooking up Season 3.

During an executive session at the Television Critics Association’s 2024 winter tour on February 9, Chairman of FX Content and FX Productions John Landgraf gave an update on The Bear‘s success and shared when fans can expect new episodes.

Season 3 was believed to premiere at some point in 2024, and Landgraf told TCA members that “The Bear returns exclusively to Hulu in June” with new episodes. And in case fans are wondering about the Season 3 release schedule, Landgraf explained that the binge model The Bear used its first two seasons will likely remain going forward.

“We all watched the first season and it wasn’t lost on me or anyone else who worked on the show that it’s a little anxiety inducing to watch that show, and anxiety inducing are not the adjectives typically associated with hit television shows and Emmy awards. So we made a decision that we would drop the whole thing because for those of you who saw it, it has a really beautiful, very uplifting ending,” he explained.

“When we came back for Season 2, we debated, since we knew now that we had a hit, can we milk it a little bit? Can we roll it out over weeks? More Bear is better? We then thought that’s a rotten thing to do, to change it up for the audience. The way that Chris makes it, even though the episodes are separate, there’s a whole vibe to every season so we decided not to change what we had already set in motion and I have no doubt that we’ll keep doing it because we did it in the past. Even if we could, I don’t think we’d change it now,” Landgraf added.

The Bear was officially renewed for Season 3 in November 2023, which was no surprise, considering the FX and Hulu reported a “70% increase in total hours streamed in the first four days” after Season 2 premiered. The sophomore season landed on the Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming chart following its release, and though FX and Hulu didn’t release specific viewership numbers, the Disney-owned brands said “Season 2’s premiere was the most-watched premiere of any FX series on Hulu.” (Per Hulu, The Bear Season 1 was “the most-watched single season of a comedy series in FX history.”)

The Bear Season 2 followed Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri), Richard “Richie” Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and the rest of their culinary team as they worked to transform their sandwich shop into a Michelin star restaurant. Along the way, they embarked on personal journeys of self-discovery and self-improvement that culminated in an emotional, eventful finale. Along with the Emmy-winning actors above, The Bear stars Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Matty Matheson, Molly Gordon, Edwin Lee Gibson, Oliver Platt, and more.

While The Bear Season 3 storylines remain unknown, as noted in a previous piece, Season 3 could focus on the team finally restaurant opening to the public, navigating their new dynamic, and of course, trying to snag a Michelin star for Syd. We’d likely also see Nat giving birth, and possibly a reunion with her, Carmy, and their mom (Jamie Lee Curtis). Speaking of Carmy, he also has relationships to mend with Richie and Claire, who he exiled from his life from behind a freezer door in the finale. Marcus and Syd will likely revisit a possible romantic relationship (because Marcus definitely tried to ask Syd out on a real date), but there’s also a possibility that Marcus’ mom’s health took a turn for the worst based on several missed calls and texts from her nurse in the final minutes of the episode.

The Bear Season 2 dropped in full on June 22, 2023, and Season 1 was released on Hulu back on June 2022. So the series has a chance to be the show of the summer for a third year running.

While we await more news on Season 3, The Bear Season 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Hulu for any rewatch needs.
