The drama between Jennifer Lopez and Ayo Edebiri ahead of their Feb. 3 joint appearance on Saturday Night Live was not tea, but rather water under the bridge.

Just a day before they led the NBC sketch comedy show together, comments that Edebiri made about Lopez on a 2020 Scam Goddess podcast episode began circulating online, including a remark when she deemed the “On the Floor” singer’s career “one long scam.”

While Edebiri’s comments were seemingly addressed in the “Why’d You Say It?” bit during her SNL appearance — where her character noted that “it’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast, and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid” — Lopez revealed that Edebiri also made amends with her off-camera, telling Variety that she “was mortified and very sweet” while doing so.

“She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things,” she shared. “She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform. She was just like, ‘I’m so fucking sorry, it was so awful of me.'”

Lopez admitted that she’s “heard similar things said about [her] throughout [her] career,” adding that “it really didn’t affect” her.

Tina Fey even recently used the situation between Edebiri and Lopez as a lesson for SNL star Bowen Yang on his Las Culturistas podcast with Matt Rogers, referencing the comments Yang had made about Saltburn on a previous episode.

“Learn from my mistakes,” she explained. “Learn from Ayo. Podcasts are forever. Authenticity is dangerous and expensive.”

Edebiri echoed the advice, taking to the comments section of Yang’s post featuring Fey’s appearance and writing, “LEARN FROM ME.”
