Joel McHale just gave Community fans an exciting update.

While speaking with Deadline, McHale revealed that he thinks the highly anticipated reboot film, which was announced by Peacock in 2022, will film “this year,” and that he will be “shocked” if that is not the case.

“But I really do think it’s happening this year, and probably next week,” he added. “It’s basically working around Donald [Glover]’s schedule.”

Back in September 2022, McHale, who played Jeff Winger in the beloved sitcom, had let fans in on the news with a tweet, in which he tagged Glover and fellow co-stars Alison Brie, Ken Jeong, Danny Pudi, and Yvette Nicole Brown — as well as accidentally tagging Gillian Anderson instead of Gillian Jacobs.

His post was followed shortly after by an official statement from Peacock, which noted that Jim Rash will also be back for the movie, but had omitted Glover’s name. In November 2022, series creator Dan Harmon assured fans that Glover would be involved in the film, telling Variety that the Atlanta star is “down to clown” and that he “would not want to think about making [the movie] without Donald.”

McHale’s latest tease arrives a little over a month after Glover told Entertainment Tonight that he “was told that the script was done.” Glover also informed The Hollywood Reporter that the film would follow “a college reunion,” and that Abed (Pudi) has become a “big director,” per Deadline.

Harmon, who is co-writing the movie alongside Andrew Guest, addressed Glover’s reveal last month, teasing to Variety that he “can confirm Donald Glover’s report that [he] told him the script was done, but [he] will also say Donald’s sources are so unreliable because the script is always ‘almost done.'”

“What can I tell you about it — it’s set on the campus of Greendale Community College,” he continued. “I’m super excited about it, and we’re almost done.”

Community is streaming on Netflix and Hulu.
