Looking for a movie to watch tonight? We’ve got you covered.

If you’re one of the few people in the world who hasn’t seen the 2023 animated superhero movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, you must change that.

The movie is a direct sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which switches out the infamous Peter Parker as the protagonist for a new spidey boy named Miles Morales, an Afro-Latino teenager in New York City.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson and written by frequent collaborators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the sequel finds Miles reuniting with Gwen Stacy and entering the Multiverse where he meets a variety of other versions of Spider-Man.

Exciting for comic-book fans and newcomers alike, the movie introduces several new colorful characters while presenting a high-stakes adventure — crucial to every good superhero story.

Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld voice Miles and Stacy respectively with Jake Johnson stepping in as a grown-up Peter Parker.

Since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s release, the movie has gathered high critical and audience reception. Adam Nayman wrote for The Ringer, “It’s smart stuff, leaps and bounds beyond Marvel’s snarky hegemony,” and Valerie Complex wrote for Deadline that the movie “reminds us why we love superhero narratives — not just for the action but for their humanity.”

Decider’s John Serba also left a positive review, writing, “Thematically, the film builds upon its predecessor’s coming-of-age story and exploration of identity and belonging.”

The movie is well-liked and has another sequel in the works, so watching it shouldn’t be a question of “if” but a question of “when.” Wondering why we are recommending Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse tonight? Out of all nights? Get the movie queued up and we’ll tell you.

Why Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Tonight?

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a must-watch movie for tonight given that the 2024 Oscars are happening on Mar. 10, 2024 and this movie is a major contender for Best Animated Feature Film.

Several critics feel that the competition will boil down between the Spider-Man movie and Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, and while both are worth a watch, we have to give kudos to the superhero flick for being easily accessible on Netflix.

Synopsis: “After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most. Anyone can wear the mask – it’s how you wear it that makes you a hero.”
