Seeing John Cena practically naked wasn’t exactly on our bingo cards for the 2024 Oscars. And yet, that’s just what we got at this evening’s awards show.

It all started when host Jimmy Kimmel remembered the time a streaker ran across the stage while David Niven was presenting Elizabeth Taylor with an Oscar at the 46th Academy Awards in 1974 — a moment he joked “used to be the craziest moment in Oscars history,” that is, until Chris Rock got infamously smacked by Will Smith at the 2022 ceremony.

“Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today?” Kimmel asked. When nothing happened, he repeated, “I said, can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today? Wouldn’t that be crazy?”

Slowly but surely, a shirtless Cena begrudgingly peered out from backstage, telling Kimmel that he no longer wanted to do “the streaker bit.”

“I just don’t feel right about it. It’s an elegant event,” Cena said. “Honestly, you should feel ashamed right now for suggesting such a tasteless idea.”

Kimmel assured the pro wrestler that the bit was “supposed to be funny.” When he countered that the “male body is not a joke,” the talk show host quipped, “Mine is.”

After going back and forth for a bit, Kimmel finally conceded and handed over the envelope for Best Costume, leaving Cena to scoot slowly across the stage in nothing but Jesus sandals and an envelope to cover up his goods. Meanwhile, his Hollywood peers were cracking up in the audience.

“Costumes … they are so important,” he said when he finally arrived at the microphone in the middle of the stage. “Maybe the most important thing there is.”

With Cena clearly unable to remove the envelope from his manhood to read the nominees, Kimmel angrily returned to the stage to announced the potential winners.

By the time the camera panned back to Cena, he was no longer standing in the nude and was instead wrapped in a large curtain. He concluded the bit by crowning Poor Things the winner of the category.

Kimmel wasn’t kidding when he said we were in for a few surprises! Check out the full video above.
