New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Mary & George, The Zone of Interest, Sugar + More

The wildest thing about the story of Mary and George Villiers is that its all true: in 1614, George Villiers, prompted by his mother Mary, sought to become “the favorite” of the new King of England. The new Starz series Mary & George is a wild ride which details their ascent to power and wealth. On Apple TV+, Colin Farrell stars in the long-awaited new detective series Sugar, and on Max, you can catch Sandra Hüller and Christian Friedel as the casually evil Nazis Rudolf and Hedwig Höss in The Zone of Interest.

New on Starz April 5: Mary & George

Set in the 1600s, Mary & George is the true story of a woman named Mary Villiers (Julianne Moore) who sought power and riches by way of her son, George (Nicholas Galitzine), who climbed his way up the society ladder by climbing into bed with the sovereign, King James VI (Tony Curran). Through scheming and seduction, the Villiers became some of the most powerful members of the King’s court. The series premieres on Friday, April 5, with new episodes out weekly.

New on Max April 5: The Zone of Interest

One of this years most-discussed films is the Oscar-winning The Zone of Interest. Directed by Jonathan Glazer (who won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay), The Zone of Interest stars Christian Friedel as Nazi commandant Rudolf Höss, the head of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Rudolf and his wife Hedwig (Sandra Hüller) live in a home that abuts the camp, and the film captures the grim juxtaposition of their family’s idyllic life that carries on in spite of atrocities that are committed within earshot of their home.

New on Apple TV+: Sugar

Apple TV+’s Sugar is a private investigator series set in Los Angeles which stars Colin Farrell as John Sugar, a detective hired to investigate the disappearance of a legendary Hollywood producer’s granddaughter. The star-studded ensemble also includes Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Anna Gunn, Amy Ryan, and James Cromwell. Two episodes of Sugar will premiere on Friday, with new episodes dropping weekly after that.
