Prime Video has a massive hit on their hands! The television adaptation of Fallout has premiered to high critical reception and has already been named one of the best video game adaptations to exist. With all this buzz, will there be more or is the series getting nuked?

Produced by Westworld duo Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the eight-part series follows a group of survivors nearly 200 years after a nuclear apocalyptic disaster.

Ella Purnell plays Lucy, an optimistic Vault-dweller, Walton Goggins plays The Ghoul, a ruthless bounty hunter, and Aaron Moten plays Maximus, a member of the miltant group The Brotherhood of Steel.

Decider’s Joel Keller praised the show in his review, writing, “Fallout does a good job drawing viewers into its expansive world without needing a ton of exposition to explain what’s going on.”

The finale sets up for more to come and teases a journey to Vegas, where two popular Vaults in the video game series are located. Is there a second season in the works? Here’s what we know.

Will There Be A Fallout Season 2?

Yes! After setting up for another season in the finale, Fallout received a Season 2 renewal roughly one week after the show premiered.

In a press release, Nolan and Joy said, “Praise be to our insanely brilliant showrunners, Geneva and Graham, to our kick-ass cast, to Todd and James and all the legends at Bethesda, and to Jen, Vernon and the amazing team at Amazon for their incredible support of this show.  We can’t wait to blow up the world all over again.”

It had previously been reported that Fallout was already in the process of getting things aligned for a second season. According to Variety, the show received $25 million in California tax credits to relocate from New York to California to film its second season.

Additionally, showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet and producer Nolan opened up about their plans for future seasons in an interview with The Direct.

“We do not have [a Season 2] yet, but we’re hoping to get one because we certainly have so many things that we could not fit into eight hours in Season 1 that we really, really want to do,” said Robertson-Dworet at the time. “That was the hardest, I think, part of adapting all of this was the fact that there’s just nonstop treasure in 25 years of Fallout games, and you want to bring everything to the screen, but you can’t because you can’t do justice to all of it, right?”

Nolan added, “We talked about a little bit. I think you always have to have a game plan should you be so lucky as to get a second season. I think, for the most part, we put our energy into making sure you’ve got one terrific season to tell. And if you should be so lucky, with Geneva [Robertson-Dworet] and Graham [Wagner], the showrunners, we’ve talked from the beginning about where we could go with this; I just hope that people enjoy it, we get a chance.”

The Fallout video game first came out in 1997 and has since released four games — with a fifth in the works — and seven spin-offs. So, there’s plenty more for the team to adapt!
