A woman claiming to be the inspiration behind the stalker portrayed in Richard Gadd‘s new Netflix series Baby Reindeer has taken issue with the way she was depicted on-screen.

The woman, who was not named in the report, recently shared her side of the story with The Daily Mail, claiming that Gadd is “bullying an older woman on television for fame and fortune” with his new show.

“He’s using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now,” she alleged. “I’m the victim. He’s written a bloody show about me.”

Baby Reindeer was directed and written by Gadd, inspired by his award-winning one-man show about his experience being stalked and sexually harassed by an older woman. The comedian claimed that he received 41,071 emails, 744 tweets, 350 hours of voicemail messages, and more from the woman over four years. But the show chronicles how their warped relationship began to change as her harassment forces him to come to terms with his own trauma and he finds himself becoming worried for her.

Gadd plays himself in the show as a bartender named Donny Dunn who moonlights as a comedian, while Jessica Gunning stars as his stalker, Martha Scott, a bubbly older woman who begins hounding him after meeting him at work.

According to the tabloid’s report, the unnamed woman shares many similarities with Martha, noting she is “a 58-year-old who lives alone in a council flat in central London surviving on a food budget of £30 a week.” She also reportedly has a history of stalking. In one instance, a Scottish politician’s wife got a restraining order against her after she displayed alarming behavior at work and began harassing her family, per The Daily Mail.

But the woman denied that she stalked Gadd, and is now threatening legal action. Despite the fact that Gadd went to certain lengths to disguise her identity on the show, the woman claims she’s received “death threats and abuse from Richard Gadd supporters.”

“Richard Gadd has got ‘main character syndrome,'” she said. “He always thinks he’s at the centre of things. I’m not writing shows about him or promoting them in the media, am I? If he wanted me to be properly anonymous, he could have done so. Gadd should leave me alone.”

Sean Foley, a UK-based director, has also been caught in the line of fire since the show’s premiere. Fans have speculated that he was the older man who took advantage of Gadd, as depicted on the show, a claim he has vehemently denied on social media.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Foley wrote, “Police have been informed and are investigating all defamatory abusive and threatening posts against me.”

Gadd has asked fans to stop trying to uncover the identities of the people on the show.

“People I love, have worked with, and admire (including Sean Foley) are unfairly getting caught up in speculation,” he said in an Instagram Story that has since expired, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Please don’t speculate on who any of the real life people could be. That’s not the point of our show.”

Baby Reindeer is streaming on Netflix.
