Time after time Drew Barrymore becomes overwhelmed with emotion while meeting her idols. On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress-turned-talk show host broke down in tears after she welcomed ’80s music icon Cyndi Lauper to the stage.

After Barrymore wiped tears from her eyes, she bowed down to the “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” singer. “I’m emotional. I really am. I’m so thrilled to hang out with you,” she told Lauper when she returned to her two feet.

Barrymore continued, “It’s so funny. I really do reference my life as your song because my life has turned out really, really positive. I think about your song and I’m always saying I’m living the life of ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.’ That is my life now. I’m living out that song.”

When the two women finally sat down on the couch, Barrymore joked, “Sorry to hard-launch on you, Cyndi.”

However, the love fest didn’t stop there as Lauper expressed her mutual adoration for Barrymore.

“You know what? I met you when you were little and you were always so talented. In fact, I just watched Whip It,” she said, referring to Barrymore’s directorial debut. “It’s my favorite film. It’s one of my favorites. You gotta direct a little more, missy.”

This is hardly the first time a Drew Barrymore Show guest has made Barrymore cry. While celebrating the 30th anniversary of Bad Girls back in January, the star began sobbing when her co-star from the film Andie MacDowell surprised her with their other co-star Dermot Mulroney.

“You were so good to me,” Barrymore tearfully told Mulroney. “I really was like a lost 17-year-old. I know I was having so much fun but I didn’t know how to take care of myself. And you took such good care of me. You were so kind to me and, like, protected me.”

She added, “Dermot was — he really, really took care of me. I mean, I was wild, guys. I was really, really wild.”

Even Mulroney became emotional, telling Barrymore, “I knew I was gonna [cry] and I came anyway. I decided I’m gonna go ahead and cry in public.”
