New Movies on Streaming: ‘The Long Game’ + More

This week’s new movies on demand include a new Nicolas Cage action thriller, a Zoe Saldaña-led border drama, and a historical sports drama based on a true story starring Dennis Quaid and Jay Hernandez.

In The Long Game, Hernandez stars as JB Peña, a school superintendent in 1950s Texas who started the San Felipe High School Mustangs’ golf team when a group of his Mexican-American students were not allowed to play golf at the all-white club where the worked as caddies. In this underdog story, the students rose to become champions. Dennis Quaid and Cheech Marin co-star in the film that’s based on the book Mustang Miracle by Humberto Garcia.

Arcadian

In Nicolas Cage’s new action movie Arcadian, he stars as the father of twin teenage boys as they try to survive and make a life for themselves in a post-apocalyptic world. The film is directed by Ben Brewer who previously worked as a writer and visual effects artist, most notably on Everything Everywhere All At Once and co-stars Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins as Cage’s sons.

The Absence of Eden

In the Martin Scorsese-produced new film The Absence of Eden, Zoe Saldaña stars as Esmee, an undocumented immigrant attempting to flee Mexico for the U.S. As she tries to flee to the States, a young mother making the same crossing is pursued by a cartel just before she’s abducted, she asks Esmee to care for her young daughter. As Esmee’s story plays out, so too does the story of a conflicted ICE agent (Garrett Hedlund) whose job is to keep desperate people like Esmee from entering the country. The film is the directorial debut of Saldaña’s husband, Marco Perego.
