Gen V Season 2 will look very different after the sudden death of lead actor Chance Perdomo.

The new season has been stuck in limbo since the 27-year-old actor tragically passed away from a motorcycle accident in March. Production is still set to begin this month, but the producers have announced that they will be rewriting Season 2 to properly “honor” the young actor instead of recasting the role.

“As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory,” their statement read. “We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.”

Gen V, which is a spinoff series of Prime Video‘s hit superhero show The Boys, ended Season 1 on a major cliffhanger with cameos from The Boys actors Antony Starr and Karl Urban.

Starring opposite his Chilling Adventures of Sabrina co-star Jaz Sinclair, Perdomo played a prodigious superhero studying at Godolkin University. Despite his golden boy status, Perdomo’s character, a supe who can control metal named Andre, teams up with his classmates to uncover the university’s unsettling secrets.

The season finale appeared to set up a major role for Perdomo in Season 2.

Production for Season 2 was set to begin April 8, but it was delayed after news of Perdomo’s passing broke. It is unclear how this delay will impact Season 2’s release.

Perdomo was praised by several members of the cast and crew after his sudden death.

The Gen V producers released a joint statement after Perdomo’s untimely death, reading, “We can’t quite wrap our heads around this. For those of us who knew him and worked with him, Chance was always charming and smiling, an enthusiastic force of nature, an incredibly talented performer, and more than anything else, just a very kind, lovely person. Even writing about him in the past tense doesn’t make sense. We are so sorry for Chance’s family, and we are grieving the loss of our friend and colleague. Hug your loved ones tonight.”

Lizze Broadway, who stars on the show as shapeshifting student Emma Meyer, also wrote a heartfelt message to her friend.

“Remembering my beloved friend and cast mate, Chance Perdomo, whose passing has left a profound void in my heart,” she wrote. “To me, he was and always will be my superhero. I am in shock and grieving his loss deeply. Rest in peace, dear Chance. You will forever hold a special place in my heart. I love you.”

During Perdomo’s acting career, he earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role after his performance in the 2018 movie Killed by my Debt. He also starred in the film After We Fell (2021), After Ever Happy (2022), and After Everything (2023).
