The Community movie is indeed “happening,” according to series star Donald Glover — and no, his schedule isn’t messing with its progress. Glover confirmed to Deadline that the reboot film, which was first announced by Peacock in 2022, is still a go.

“It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” he shared.

Then, when asked if his “schedule” is preventing any progress on the film, he exclaimed that “it is not.”

“Everybody is hating on me on the internet and it’s not me!” he said with a chuckle. “They’re like, ‘We know that you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year — maybe — but not this time.”

These remarks arrive two months after Joel McHale had teased to Deadline that he thinks the movie will shoot “this year,” and would be “shocked” if that were not the case.

“But I really do think it’s happening this year, and probably next week,” he added at the time, quipping that “it’s basically working around Donald’s schedule.”

Other than Glover and McHale, some more of the sitcom’s stars set to return for the film include Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong and Yvette Nicole Brown.

In February, Glover had told The Hollywood Reporter about series creator Dan Harmon‘s vision for the project, explaining that the film would follow “a college reunion, but Abed [Danny Pudi’s character] is like this big director now, and basically this is his magnum opus.”

In his recent conversation with Deadline, Glover said that he hadn’t read the script yet, but noted that he thinks Harmon is “working on it.”

However, at the end of January, Glover had told Entertainment Tonight that he was “told that the script is done.” Harmon confirmed Glover’s story while speaking with Variety the following month, but clarified that “the script is always ‘almost done.'”

According to Deadline, Brie told Watch What Happens Live in April that she had received the script, describing it as “so funny.”
