Katy Perry‘s run on American Idol came to an end this weekend as the pop star bid farewell to the ABC reality series.

This week’s episode proved to be very emotional for Perry, who could be seen crying throughout the evening’s performances, from the moment she saw Ryan Seacrest when she first walked out onto the American Idol stage to when the credits rolled and she gave her longtime co-judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, an emotional hug.

The singer reflected on her run on the show in an after-show chat with Entertainment Tonight, where she revealed who she hopes will replace her as a judge and spoke a bit about the troubles she faced during her seven seasons on the show.

“I hope it’s someone fearless. I hope it’s someone that doesn’t mince their words, maybe someone a little polarizing just like myself,” she said. Perry has faced heavy criticism from viewers who took issue with how she treated the contestants on the show.

“There’s a lot of people that’s like, ‘She’s awful! She should go!’ And there’s a lot of people that are like, ‘She speaks her mind! She’s authentic!’ Whatever, you can’t win ’em all,” she continued. “I think it’s actually better not to win ’em all because that means you actually have a point of view.”

This may not be the end of her tenure on American Idol, however. “Keep that seat hot. I mean, who knows,” she teased. “I loved everything I got to experience and learn.”

Perry announced her exit in February, saying she planned to focus more on her music and performing again.

Rumors of her exit began swirling before Season 22 began airing on ABC after a report from The Daily Mail claimed the singer felt like she had been “thrown under the bus by producers” who made her look like the “nasty judge.”

“Katy’s wanted out for some time now, but this season was way too much for her to handle,” an inside source said.

Season 21 got off on the wrong foot early on when the singer was accused of mom-shaming a 25-year-old mother of three who was auditioning for the show. In another instance, viewers accused her of using “psychological warfare” on contestants after she convinced them that they were being eliminated.

Perry only had good things to say about the show upon her exit, however.

“I believe in humanity. I believe in the American Dream,” she said. “I think this show, it’s like one of the last standing examples of a united front, American Dream, people coming from all places, all different beliefs, coming together.”
