Luke Newton Says He Has To “Get Really Good With The Fast-Forward Button” Before His Mom Can Watch ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3

It’s no secret that Luke Newton is Bridgerton‘s latest heartthrob, but the actor would still like to shield his real-life mom from some of his steamier scenes in the hit Netflix romance series.

Newton appeared on today’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where he joked that he has to get “really good with the fast-forward button” before he can let his mom — who happens to be a Bridgerton super fan — watch Season 3.

“I went home to show her a sneak episode before the release and we sat down and watched Episode 1. And I thought, ‘I’m safe here. Great,'” he told host Kelly Clarkson. “But I left my Netflix account logged on at home … and then I kept receiving texts like, ‘Can I watch Episode 2? I’m with your dad. Can we watch Episode 2?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, OK.'”

Newton continued, “Later, as she gets onto the episode, I’m not letting her watch it just yet. I need to get really good with the fast-forward button I think. There’s some steaminess.”

The actor isn’t kidding! Bridgerton Season 3 follows his character Colin Bridgerton as his friendship with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) blossoms into a passionate romance. Fans who binged the first four episodes of the season were left with a steamy cliffhanger, which happened to also be the infamous carriage scene from Julia Quinn’s books on which the show is based.

Coughlan also teased that there is more to come between Colin and Penelope, revealing that an impending nude scene was all her idea.

“I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included. There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice,” she told Stylist magazine. “It just felt like the biggest ‘fuck you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering.”

She added, “I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how fucking hot I looked!’”

Bridgerton Season 3, Part 2 will drop on June 13 on Netflix.
