It feels like just yesterday Bobby and Athena were setting sail on their catastrophic honeymoon cruise, and now 9-1-1 Season 7 has officially wrapped.

The hit ABC procedural aired its highly-anticipated Season 7 finale on Thursday, May 30, and answered several burning questions: Did Hen and Karen get Mara back? What happened after Christopher and Marisol walked in on Eddie and Kim? Did Amir start the fire? And crucially, did Bobby die?! But this is 9-1-1, so naturally the series also left fans and members of the 118 on a massive cliffhanger.

Wondering if there will be an 9-1-1 Season 8? Has ABC canceled or renewed the popular procedural already? And what could an 9-1-1 Season 8 look like? We’ve got answers!

Read on to learn everything we know about the future of 9-1-1, including some teases from Decider’s interviews with stars Ryan Guzman and Peter Krause.

Will There Be A 9-1-1 Season 8 on ABC?

Good news, 118 fans. Ahead of 9-1-1‘s historic 100th episode, ABC renewed the series for Season 8, which means the show will return with more new episodes (and ideally a bigger season order) shortly.

How Many Episodes Are In 9-1-1 Season 8?

It’s unclear how many episodes 9-1-1 Season 8 will consist of at this time, but we’ll be sure to update this article once we find out. Fans may recall that 9-1-1 Season 5 and Season 6 were larger 18-episode seasons, but as a result of 2023 WGA and SAG-AFRTA strike delays and schedule changes, 9-1-1‘s seventh season was cut down to 10, as were other network shows that returned in 2024. While fans will understandably be sad that 9-1-1 is entering a hiatus, they won’t have to say goodbye for long…

9-1-1 Season 8 Premiere Date: When Does 9-1-1 Return With New Episodes?

Though 9-1-1 Season 8 doesn’t have a set premiere date at this time, we do know it’s premiering on ABC in 2024. The network recently announced its Fall 2024-2025 Primetime TV Schedule, revealing that 9-1-1 will continue to air on Thursdays.

With Station 19 ending this season, 9-1-1 Season 8 episodes will air Thursdays from 8:00 p.m. ET to 9:00 p.m. ET ahead of Ryan Murphy’s new ABC series Doctor Odyssey at 9:00 p.m. ET, followed by Grey’s Anatomy at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Decider will be sure to update this article as new 9-1-1 Season 8 updates and premiere date info is revealed. Until then, let’s talk about what 9-1-1 Season 8 could look like, shall we?

What Will 9-1-1 Season 8 Look Like? Stars Ryan Guzman And Peter Krause Weigh In

In true 9-1-1 fashion, the series will continue exploring the personal and professional lives of the show’s core characters and undoubtedly feature more wacky and intense emergencies, but based on the Season 7 finale cliffhanger, we can assume a large part of Season 7 will focus on the 118 adjusting to their new captain and presumably Bobby trying to get his old job back.

“It was a bit of a storytelling leap,” Krause told Decider over Zoom when asked about Captain Gerrard taking control of the 118. “I’m not sure exactly what Tim [Minear] has planned. But I’m sure it’s not going to be an immediately easy road for Bobby to regain the captainship of the 118. I have faith that he will. But I’m not sure I’m not sure exactly what he’s got got in store.”

As for his hopes for Bobby and Athena, Krause wants to see a continuation of Bathena’s honeymoon. “I would like to see Athena and Bobby go on an RV trip. I just feel like after The Poseidon Adventure episodes that there’s still some honeymoon that they haven’t completed yet. And I think that somehow on an RV trip, what could go wrong?” Krause laughed. The trip might have to wait a bit, though, because according Krause, “Athena is still on the case about how their house burned down. So I think that that is probably fuel for the beginning of Season 8.”

During Decider’s finale interview with Ryan Guzman, the 9-1-1 actor also shared his predictions and hopes for the future of Eddie, Christopher, and the 118. With Christopher gone, “That leaves Eddie in new territory, which can be scary on both spectrums of life,” Guzman said. “Is he going to go back into the craziness of beating his walls and going nuts and losing himself? Or is he going to choose something that we’ve never seen in these past seven seasons? My hope is the latter, obviously. But if the first one comes, that’ll be interesting as an actor.”

Regarding Eddie’s connection to Kim (and Shannon), the actor said he hopes for “some premonitions of Shannon or Kim coming back into his life, saying, “I don’t know if we’re done with her yet. But if we are done with her, then I think Eddie is going to have a very rough Season 8.”

Guzman also teased more about Eddie’s relationship with religion and possible scenes with his family (the long lost sisters!) but as for the 118, he said, “We know Gerrard is the worst version of human. So I think Season 8 is, to say the least, going to be difficult navigating, because there won’t be that open family atmosphere. I won’t be coming to Cap for my problems. It’ll be a handle it on your own situation. So that might actually propel Eddie to start to handle these issues by himself again and be seeking out Cap in a way that he never has before. It’s gonna be a lot of variables now with Gerrard, and I think it changes the whole scope of what the 118 is.”
