For the first time in 14 seasons, The Real Housewives of New Jersey will not be holding a traditional reunion. News of this change leaked over the weekend, prompting Bravo head Andy Cohen to clarify the thinking behind the decision that no doubt leaves plenty of fans upset and speculating about why the highly anticipated episode won’t be filmed.

After the news was leaked by People, Cohen called into SiriusXM’s Reality Unchecked show hosted by Kiki Monique to clarify why the shocking decision was made.

“I do want to give some context to the announcement over the weekend that there was gonna be no Jersey reunion because I feel like there are a lot of theories about what this could mean,” Cohen stated. “I think that the main thing is this will all make sense once you see the finale. It is one of those classic Jersey finales that people will be talking about for a long time to come.”

It’s no secret that the New Jersey franchise has become something of a battleground, with Rachel Fuda exchanging old and stupid words with Teresa Giudice earlier this season. On top of that, there’s still Giudice’s longstanding feud with Melissa Gorga, and Giudice’s conflict with Margaret Josephs stemming from comments Josephs made about the Giudice family at last season’s reunion. But Teresa’s not the only pot-stirrer; co-stars Jennifer Aydin and Danielle Cabral were both suspended from the show during filming for a physical altercation.

Cohen added that he doesn’t think fans will miss the reunion, however, based on the finale footage he’s seen.

“When all of us producers saw the last cut of the finale, we all came to the decision separately and then we talked. We all had the same thought, which is the finale is kind of the finale and the reunion all in one,” he said.

He then likened the finale episode to the Last Supper, but, you know, like if Jesus flipped tables on Judas: “It’s in the great tradition of absolute shocking, dramatic Jersey finales and they have this final epic group encounter, which is like, it feels like the Last Supper and is just so Jersey. And it’s shocking and it’s dramatic and it’s amazing TV,” Cohen insisted. “I’m telling you, when you see it, I think that you’ll feel complete. I really do.”

RHONJ is the fourth installment in the Real Housewives franchise. New episodes air on Bravo every Sunday and are available for next-day streaming on Peacock.
