The Atypical Family recently wrapped its first season, but will there be a Season 2?

Billed as a limited series, the South Korean romantic drama centers on a “mysterious woman who changes the lives of a de-powered superhuman family,” per the streamer’s description. The show debuted on both the South Korean TV network JTBC and Netflix on May 4. Decider contributor Radhika Menon encouraged prospective viewers to stream the series in Decider’s review, concluding that “despite some bad politics and character development flaws, the series has a compelling enough premise to warrant pressing play.”

The Atypical Family cast consists of Jang Ki-yong as Bok Gwi-ju, Chun Woo-hee as Do Da-Hae, Go Doo-shim as Bok Man-heum, Claudia Kim as Bok Dong-hee, and more, per Screen Rant.

All 12 episodes of the limited series are currently streaming on Netflix, but fans are curious as to whether there will be a second season. In need of a recap of Season 1’s intense finale? How did The Atypical Family Season 1 end?

Netflix viewers are provided with the following teaser for the twelfth and final episode of The Atypical Family Season 1: “As Gwi-ju awaits the inevitable, catastrophe strikes I-na’s dance competition. Can Gwi-ju fulfill his ultimate purpose before it’s too late?”

According to Dexerto and Sportskeeda, Gwi-ju travels back in time 13 years prior to rescue Da-hae from a fire at her high school, causing his body to disappear in the present and leading viewers to the understanding that he died in the fire, which his mother had seen in a dream of hers. As noted by Dexerto and Ready Steady Cut, the end of the Season 1 finale takes place five years in the future, as viewers learn that Gwi-ju and Da-hae had a son, Bok Nu-ri, together. After discovering that their son possesses the power to retrieve things from the past, Da-hae asks Bok Nu-ri if he can bring his father back. He is able to do so, leading to an emotional reunion.
