Deadliest Catch returns June 11 with a new season full of shocking surprises, including some concerning news for Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski.
A new Season 20 trailer shows Captain Wichrowski being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“When I heard it, one of the things I thought was, ‘You know what? I’m not going to stop [fishing]. I’m going to keep going until I actually can’t.’ How many people get diagnosed with this and they just shut down and crawl into a shell? And it just makes it worse,” he says in the trailer after a doctor warns him that his diagnosis “needs to be treated right away.”
It appears that Deadliest Catch Season 20 will give fans an inside look at Wichrowski’s life as he undergoes treatment. Footage in the trailer shows Wichrowski receiving injections in the hospital as he “officially” begins his fight against prostate cancer.
It also shows Wichrowski getting right back to work on the boat.
“I was hoping that the fact that I kept going it would show people if you have this, you can keep working. You can keep moving. That I wasn’t going to stop unless I have to,” he says.
The reality star appears hopeful in the trailer as he candidly shares his journey battling cancer.
“I’ll be honest. It’s kind of weird to put [the diagnosis] out there to the public. I’ll explain to people what happens as it goes,” he says. “I’m willing to put it out there to let people see the journey in hopes of convincing some people to get tested.”
This shocking news is another blow to The Summer Bay crew after deck boss Nick McGlashan died in 2020 at the age of 33.
Other Season 20 trailers show that this will be a heavy season for the crew. One emotional clip shows Captain Jake Anderson receiving a repossession notice on the F/V Saga, the boat he invested his kids’ college funds into.
Deadliest Catch Season 20 airs June 11 at 8/7c.
