Just a month after The Boys was renewed for Season 5, showrunner Eric Kripke has announced that the show’s fifth installment will also be its last.
Kripke broke the news on social media on Tuesday, noting that “Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!”
He continued, “Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”
The Prime Video series was renewed for a fifth season on May 14. The Boys also spawned the spin-off Gen V which has been renewed for a second season.
Ahead of The Boys‘ upcoming fourth season, the show teased a look at Homelander’s (Antony Starr) trial, which aligned with updates in Donald Trump‘s hush money trial.
Starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti, Season 4 will also see some new faces: Susan Heyward and Valorie Curry as new Supes Sister Sage and Firecracker, as well as Jeffrey Dean Morgan, whose role has yet to be revealed.
Some fans online have praised Kripke’s decision, deeming five seasons “just the right length” and arguing that “there’s no reason to drag it out.”
“Really sad about this but so happy you wont be dragging it out like other shows do,” another highlighted. “Thanks for everything eric.”
However, others brought up Kripke’s Supernatural, which ultimately went on for 15 seasons.
“Some of us remember the last time you said 15 seasons 😜,” Supernatural writer and executive producer Sera Gamble teased in the comments section of Kripke’s Instagram post.
The first three episodes of The Boys Season 4 will be released on Prime Video on Thursday, July 13.
