Andrew McCarthy‘s Brats features several Brat Pack alums, including himself, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, Rob Lowe, and Emilio Estevez. However, fans will pick up on two notable stars that did not physically appear in the new documentary: Judd Nelson and Molly Ringwald.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, McCarthy opened up about their absence, noting that he has no hard feelings and acknowledging that they “both are in the film in a sense that there’s a lot of clips and interviews and things,” per Entertainment Weekly.

As noted by the outlet, both Breakfast Club stars are seen in the doc through archival footage and old interview, but not through new ones. At the end of the film, Nelson makes his way in through a phone call.

“The Brat Pack is an ongoing relationship, you know what I mean?” McCarthy shared. “And some people are at different places in their lives to want to or not want to talk about it. I think that just informs it even more. I mean, that’s my takeaway from it.”

Nonetheless, McCarthy said he “was surprised as many people would want to speak to [him that] did,” claiming that he “thought the biggest challenge would be to get people to participate.”

“I knew it was still so sort of dodgy in some people’s lives,” he added.

McCarthy spoke with DECIDER about the new doc, explaining that “the movie is about the inside versus the outside.”

“The public perceived the Brat Pack to be the cool kids. We perceived it as a fucking nightmare,” he added.

One revelation that came out of the new film was that Estevez turned down a film adaptation of Young Men with Unlimited Capital alongside McCarthy because he “didn’t want to have anything to do with” the Brat Pack.

“I didn’t want to any movies,” he recalled. “If it were Judd [Nelson], I would have said the same thing. To be seen in another film could potentially have a negative impact. Working together almost felt like we were kryptonite to each other.”

BRATS is now streaming on Hulu. Watch the trailer above.
