In an era of dark and depressing shows, something an uplifting coming-of-age series can be a nice pick-me-up. Fortunately, Geek Girl is here to be that pick-me-up. Starring Emily Carey, Geek Girl follows a young girl as she goes from regular student to model overnight. What is Geek Girl About?

Geek Girl centers around Harriet Manners (Carey), a high school student that would not be considered “cool.” She is a fairly awkward teenager, which leads her to an outcast status that makes her a prime target for bullies. However, when she and her class attend London Fashion Week, Harriet is unexpectedly scouted by modeling agents. She is then selected to headline a high-profile fashion show. It is everything that a young girl dreams about. However, even though the modeling world may look glamorous, appearance can be deceiving. As she joins this world, Harriet becomes caught up in big secrets, serious competition, hidden romances, and a lot of drama. Will Harriet learn how to make it as a model, or is she doomed to forever be a geek girl?

Carey is the breakout star of this series, as she is the one that makes Harriet so fun to watch. Previously, Carey came to attention for her recurring role in House of the Dragon, where she played young Alicent Hightower. Other notable roles Carey has played include young Diana Prince in Wonder Woman and young Lara Croft in the recent reboot of Tomb Raider. She has also done stage work, playing Young Shrek and Young Fiona in Shrek the Musical on London’s West End. Carey has played a lot of young versions of characters in her career, but with Geek Girl, she gets to be the star.

Will there be a Season 2 of Geek Girl?

As soon as the first season of the series was released on Netflix, fans were hooked. It had millions of views it s first week and debuted at #7 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV English Titles. According to Variety, it was the third most streamed original series in total for the week of May 31-June 6. So the big question is, what is next for the series? So far, there has been no news on if the series will be renewed for a season. The original order of the series was only for 10 episodes. Perhaps, if Netflix notices the popularity, there could be another season. Furthermore, the book that Geek Girl is based on had five sequels, so there is a lot more story to tell. With all of these considerations, even though there is no news, or even rumors, yet, the future of the show looks promising.

Then there is the question of if there is a Season 2, would Carey return? Carey was a stand out of Season 1 and many people enjoyed her adorkable portrayal of Harriet. Also, considering she is the lead, the series would need her in order to continue. Fortunately, it looks like Carey appreciates the book series, television series and her time playing Harriet. “I became so attached to the books because the character made me feel so incredibly seen… at a time when I felt so strongly like I didn’t belong anywhere,” she told RadioTimes, “Finding Harriet Manners, I felt like I belonged with her in that world.” She also mentioned that, “And now playing her, when I had to sit there and sob, it felt weirdly cathartic, like I was releasing something that my inner child needed to release somewhere – which sounds so overdramatic, but it’s so true.” It sounds like Carey is attached to the part of Harriett, meaning she would likely be on board if the series were to continue.
