It’s been more than a year since Apple TV+‘s cathartic comedy Shrinking aired its Season 1 finale, but rest assured, Season 2 is on the way.

During Apple’s 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month, fans of Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein, and Jason Segel’s beloved series got a first look at what the future holds thanks to an exciting “Coming to Apple TV+” preview montage.

Shrinking’s brief Season 2 scene showed Segel’s Jimmy passionately telling Harrison Ford’s Paul, “You and I are cut from the same beautiful cloth,” then Paul ordering him to “take that back.” Classic Paul.

Now that we’ve got a taste of this dynamic duo back on our screens again, we obviously can’t wait for more. Give us Jessica Williams. Give us Christa Miller, Michael Urie, and Ted McGinley. Give us Luke Tennie and Lukita Maxwell, dang it! We’ve waited long enough!

If you, like Decider, are desperate for Shrinking Season 2, you’ve come to the right place. Curious when the Apple TV+ series returns with new episodes, who’s joining the cast, and what Shrinking Season 2 will be about? Read on to learn everything we know about the Apple TV+ comedy’s highly-anticipated sophomore season.

Shrinking Season 2 Premiere Date: When Does Shrinking Return With New Episodes On Apple TV+?

While there’s currently no known premiere date for Shrinking Season 2, Apple TV+ assured fans at WWDC that the series would return soon, so with any luck, we could see new episodes in 2024.

Season 1 of the comedy premiered on January 27, 2023, but now that the show is an established fan-favorite on the streamer, perhaps Apple TV+ could be eyeing a Fall 2024 release. Whether we’re getting more shrinking in 2024 or have to wait until 2025, Decider will be sure to update this piece when we know more.

When Did Shrinking Season 2 Film?

Like so many other projects, production of Shrinking Season 2 was impacted by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the second season was in production in March 2024, however, so at least we know filming has begun — and possibly already ended!

New Shrinking Cast Members: Brett Goldstein And Ashley Nicole Black Are On Both Sides Of The Camera In Season 2

Shrinking Season 2 will welcome back core cast members including Jason Segel as Jimmy, Harrison Ford as Paul, Jessica Williams as Gaby, Christa Miller as Liz, Michael Urie as Brian, Luke Tennie as Sean, and Lukita Maxwell as Alice. If you think we forgot to mention Ted McGinley as Derek, how dare you. Of course we didn’t. We were just waiting to say that thanks to a tweet from Lawrence it looks like McGinley was upped to a series regular in Season 2, which is incredibly well-deserved, because who doesn’t want more Derek?!

Based on that literal cliffhanger ending, we can also assumed that Heidi Gardner, who played Jimmy’s patient Grace in Season 1, will return. And there’s potential to see other familiar faces like Devin Kawaoka as Charlie, Lily Rabe as Meg, and Wendie Malick as Dr. Julie Baram. On top of returning Shrinking stars, we also know two exciting guest stars will be joining the cast.

Deadline recently reported that Ashley Nicole Black of A Black Lady Sketch Show will be working behind and in front of the camera on Shrinking Season 2. Black, who was also a writer on Ted Lasso, writes for Shrinking and Bill Lawrence’s upcoming Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey, in which she’ll also star. The Ted Lasso vibes will grow even stronger in Shrinking Season 2, because Ted Lasso writer/star and Shrinking co-creator/EP/writer Brett Goldstein is joining the cast as well. While details on Shrinking’s new characters remain unknown, we do have some idea of what will go down in Season 2 based on Season 1’s eventful finale…

Shrinking Season 1 Ending Explained: What Will Shrinking Season 2 Be About?

If you’re looking for a full Shrinking Season 1 finale recap, Decider has you covered. Otherwise, here are some key plot points you need to remember. Before Season 1 wrapped, Derek and Liz invested in Sean’s catering business, so we’ll likely see that venture grow in Season 2. We can also expect Paul and Julie’s relationship to progress and will hopefully him bonding more with his family as his daughter helps him navigate his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

Brian and Charlie are newlyweds, so perhaps a honeymoon is in store. We’ll hopefully get to meet Professor Gaby and see her relationship with Jimmy evolve. And speaking of Jimmy, though the finale brought him a sense of closure, he and Alice will undoubtedly still be figuring out life without Tia in Season 2.

Naturally, there’s also the “BOOP!” of it all. Who could forget that cliffhanger ending, where Grace literally pushed her man off a cliff? Could she argue that Jimmy told her to push Donny, because he sort of, kind of did? Is Donny dead? Are Jimmy’s radical therapy techniques finally coming back to bite him? Will this burn the whole practice down? Will Brian step in to offer legal assistance? (As a reminder everything goes his way!) According to ScreenRant, Lawrence teased, “They’re not gonna be in a courtroom.” So at least there’s that!

Will There Be A Shrinking Season 3 On Apple TV+?

Now that Shrinking Season 2 is on the horizon, some serious fans may already be wondering if Shrinking Season 3 is a go at Apple TV+. While there’s no official renewal for the comedy yet, Segel, Lawrence, and Goldstein told The Hollywood Reporter that they did plan a three-season arc, which means there’s more story to tell after Season 2.

After seeing how successful Ted Lasso’s envisioned three-season arc was for the streamer (they still want more of the series!) we’d imagine that Apple TV+ would be very open to more Shrinking after the next round of episodes drops. So stay tuned for future updates!

Until then, Shrinking Season 1 is now streaming on Apple TV+ and be sure to read up on the latest Season 2 updates for Apple TV+’s fan-favorite show, Severance.
