Fans of Chicago P.D. will be greeted with a familiar face on FBI: International‘s next season, but they’ll be taking on a whole new role.

Jesse Lee Soffer, who played Detective Jay Halstead in ten seasons of the hit NBC police procedural, has been cast as a series regular in FBI: International, Season 4, taking over for Luke Kleintank, whose last appearance as Scott Forrester took place in May, per Deadline.

However, despite both shows coming from broadcast crime procedural mastermind Dick Wolf, Soffer will be stepping into an entirely new role, the details of which have yet to be publicly disclosed.

Soffer announced his departure from Chicago P.D. in April 2022, eventually telling Variety in 2023 that he was “ready for more” and “really wanted to grow and expand.” His last appearance took place in Season 10. Per IMDb, he has since returned to the series to direct two episodes: “Deadlocked,” which aired as part of Season 10 in 2023, and “Inventory,” which aired during Season 11 last month.

As for Kleintank, he had announced his exit in April, citing his “unwavering commitment to [his] family, whose love and well-being are paramount in [his] life” as cause for his decision, per Entertainment Weekly.
