It’s been over two decades since Malcolm in the Middle first premiered, but fans are nervously bracing for its seemingly imminent departure from Hulu — but is the news true?

The fan-favorite sitcom centers on Frankie Muniz as Malcolm Wilkerson in the midst of his chaotic family, helmed by parents Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), and rounded out by brothers Francis (Christopher Masterson), Reese (Justin Berfield), and Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan).

Cranston, who would go on to star in Breaking Bad two years following the Malcolm in the Middle finale, had confirmed during a June 2023 Watch What Happens Live appearance that there were talks of a series reboot.

In March, ahead of competing on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! Australia Season 10, Muniz told Pedestrian TV that “there’s nothing confirmed,” but in terms of a reboot, “it’s the closest it’s ever been to being a reality.”

While competing on the reality competition show, Muniz revealed that he did not appear in two episodes of the famed sitcom, having “walked off the set” out of frustration with a colleague.

“Everyone was so afraid to stand up when certain people were controlling or rude or disrespectful. Like they walked on pins and needles,” he shared.

So, is Malcolm in the Middle leaving Hulu? Here’s everything we know.

Is Malcolm in the Middle leaving Hulu?

On Tuesday (June 18), when Hulu subscribers headed over to watch Malcolm in the Middle on the streamer, which is currently home to all seven seasons, they were met with the words “EXP. 13 days” over each episode, signifying that the series will no longer be available on the platform on July 1.

Malcolm in the Middle fans on X have caught the attention of Hulu’s support team after urging the streamer not to get rid of the sitcom.

In response, Hulu issued their “apologies,” explaining, “While we’d love to keep content forever, our right can expire from time to time.”

“That said, we’ll be letting the proper teams know that you’d like to see Malcolm in the Middle stick around,” the post continued. “Keep the show in your My Stuff for updates!”

Nonetheless, both The Mary Sue and We Got This Covered highlighted — citing fans’ experiences on the sitcom’s Reddit thread — that Hulu has reportedly attempted to pull a similar move in 2022 and 2023, but never actually actually removed the show. So, fingers crossed the show sticks around again this time!
