‘9-1-1’ And ‘The Bachelor’ Crossovers Continue: Before Jenn Tran Visited ‘The Bachelorette’s New Mansion, The 118 Was There

Months after 9-1-1‘s Season 7 crossover episode with The Bachelor brought the 118 to the franchise’s famous mansion to save Joey Graziadei and Jesse Palmer from a first impression gone wrong, the two ABC shows will cross paths again. Well, sort of…

Since The Bachelorette is ditching Bachelor Nation’s beloved Agoura Hills property, Villa de la Vina, in its upcoming Season 21, it’s unlikely Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) will send the team back there in 9-1-1 Season 8. When The Bachelorette lead Jenn Tran meets her 25 contestants outside a new California mansion in her July 8 premiere, however, eagle-eyed 9-1-1 fans like myself may recognize the property from past 118 emergencies.

Before Jenn and her men head overseas to give her already historic season another exciting travel twist, Night 1 meet-and-greets will take place at Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Santa Susana, a town in Simi Valley, California. In an interview with ET, the Season 21 lead said, “I feel like a new mansion is the perfect way to break the mold… I’m gonna bless it with some really good vibes.”

Well, Jenn! We’ve got news. The good vibes were already waiting for you, because 9-1-1 filmed several episodes on-site. That’s right! The 118 firetrucks pulled into the very driveway I can only assume Jesse Palmer recently hosed down for dramatic effect. What a world!

Wondering how I stumbled upon the realization that 9-1-1 and the Bachelor franchise are about to exist in the same universe yet again? It all started when I pitched an article arguing that the popular procedural should invest in Anirudh Pisharody’s character Ravi in Season 8. It had been years since I’d seen some of Ravi’s best episodes, so in the spirit of thorough research I hopped on the couch for a rewatch, completely unaware that I was about to turn into the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme in the middle of Season 5, Episode 5, “Peer Pressure.”

For those who need a refresher, the 2021 episode shows the 118 responding to an explosion at Shady Crest Retirement Community. I’d re-watched the episode before, but this time, when I laid eyes on the aerial shot of that luxurious white villa with two tall palm trees and lots of greenery out front, a gorgeous fountain in the circular driveway, and two staircases leading up to the entry arch, I thought to myself, “That’s no retirement home! That’s the new Bachelorette mansion!”

Since my gut feeling was born from briefly glimpsing one partially-covered photo of the Hummingbird Ranch Nest staircases in an article earlier that day, I paused 9-1-1, grabbed my phone, and started researching the episode name, number, and filming location. I cross-referenced photos of the property with the paused 9-1-1 frames, and the windows, roof, landscaping, fountain, and even tiled staircases and iron railings matched up.

When the 118 visited the 17,000 square foot villa with Santa Susana mountain views in that Season 5 episode, viewers get a glimpse of Hummingbird Nest Ranch’s Spanish Colonial architecture, spacious interior, chandeliers, decor, windows, doors, and more. But that’s not all!

My search also revealed that 9-1-1 Season 3, Episode 1, “Kids Today,” filmed at the Simi Valley spot as well. Naturally, my next step was to smash play on the 2019 episode, and the next thing I knew, the 118 was rolling up to the future Bachelorette mansion (still a retirement home on the show) again! The episode shows siblings calling 9-1-1 because they’re worried about their 82-year-old dad. Turns out he has a flesh-eating STD that spreads through the senior community. In the words of Eddie Diaz, “Kids today!”

While I’m unsure if the filming location appears in other 9-1-1 episodes, watching old episodes of the popular first responder procedural isn’t the way to see Hummingbird Nest Ranch on screen outside of Jenn Tran’s Bachelorette season.

In addition to being a hot spot for lavish weddings and events (even celebrities like Kaley Cuoco and Corbin Bleu got married there), Hummingbird Nest’s website offers a variety of filming packages and notes the property is “one of the top film locations in Southern California.”

IMDb and a blog from 2019 report that films like Savages (2012), Jobs (2013), and Book Club (2018), along with TV shows like Knots Landing, The Biggest Loser, The Mentalist, NCIS, L.A’s Finest, 90210, Vanderpump Rules, Entourage, and True Detective filmed at the property over the years. Claim to Fame fans will recognize Hummingbird Nest Ranch, too. Those gorgeous grounds are everywhere! But again, 9-1-1 shares a special connection to the Bachelor franchise after its 100th episode crossover emergency, so that realization hits different.

If you tune into The Bachelorette Season 21 premiere on Monday, July 8 and watch Jenn Tran, Jesse Palmer, and 25 men looking for love walk up those gorgeous Hummingbird Nest Ranch staircases, just know that Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman), and more of your favorite 9-1-1 characters were there first.

9-1-1 Season 8 premieres this fall, so who’s to say we can’t get a Golden Bachelorette crossover or see the 118 back at Hummingbird Nest Ranch (or whatever other mansions The Bachelor franchise uses) in the future? The 9-1-1 cast told Decider they have more crossover ideas, so never say never.

Until then, check out the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in 9-1-1 episodes past and on The Bachelorette Season 21, premiering on ABC Monday, July 8.
