Oscar-nominated actor Lily Gladstone is back on the big screen in Fancy Dance, a heartbreaking new movie from Apple. Directed by Erica Tremblay in her feature film debut, and co-written by Tremblay and Miciana Alise, Fancy Dance first premiered at Sundance Film Festival back in 2023. Now, over one year and one awards circuit later—which didn’t manage to win Gladstone the Oscar, but did catapult her into stardom—this indie movie is finally being released.

Fancy Dance stars Gladstone as Jax, who lives on the Seneca–Cayuga Nation Reservation with her niece, Roki (Isabel DeRoy-Olson). Jax has been looking after Roki ever since Jax’s sister mysteriously disappeared. When social services threaten to take Roki away from Jax—and when it becomes clear local law enforcement isn’t taking the search seriously—the pair embark on a journey to find Jax’s sister themselves.

Also starring Shea Whigham and Audrey Wasilewski, Fancy Dance is a quiet, moving drama that will remind you of Lily Gladstone’s powerful talent. When will Fancy Dance be streaming on Apple TV+?

If you don’t want to go to the movie theater, good news: Fancy Dance will begin streaming on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 28—exactly one week after the movie opens in theaters. You’ll need an Apple TV+ subscription or a login from a friend to watch the movie on Apple. A subscription to Apple TV+ is $4.99/month.
