Trigger Warning, the new Jessica Alba movie now streaming on Netflix, never specifies where, exactly, it takes place.

Directed by Mouly Surya, and written by John Brancato, Josh Olson, and Halley Gross, the film stars Alba as a military officer named Parker, who returns to her hometown after her grandfather dies in a tragic mining accident. But was his death actually an accident? Parker starts to suspect it wasn’t. As she investigates, the small town where she grew up, she starts to wonder who she can trust—and who she’ll have to violently beat up. This is an action movie, after all!

Also starring Mark Webber and Anthony Michael Hall, Trigger Warning is more about the action and plot than it is about the location. Still, because the movie never specifies where in the U.S. that Parker’s fictional hometown of Creation is, audiences may be curious to know where Trigger Warning takes place and where Trigger Warning was filmed.

Where was Trigger Warning filmed? Where is Creation from Trigger Warning?

Trigger Warning was filmed on location in New Mexico, at various locations in central and northern New Mexico, as well as on sound stages at the Netflix-owned Albuquerque Studios. The fictional town in the movie, Creation, is not a real place, but a composite of several different New Mexico locations.

One of the film’s co-screenwriters, Josh Olson, described the fictional town in an interview for the Trigger Warning press notes. “It’s an archetypal place. It was always a nebulous kind of western/southwestern town,” Olson said.

One of those locations included Zia Pueblo, a small Native American town that’s about 40 miles north of Albuquerque, where Deadline reported that one of the Trigger Warning crew members, James Saul, was injured with a broken leg on set. Other locations, according to New Mexico’s local Albuquerque Journal, included Lamy, Española, Los Cerrillos, Madrid, Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

In a recent interview with Decider, Alba provided some insight into what it was like filming that stand-out fight scene at a real hardware store in New Mexico.

” We went back and shot that scene special, because it was in a real hardware store,” Alba told Decider. “Everything was practical, and it’s always more challenging when you’re doing this type of action, where it’s very grounded—a lot of hand-to-hand combat—and it’s in a practical location. It was exactly as it looked. It smelled like hay and corn feed in there and there was like Carhartt up on the walls, mixed with the chaps, and all the different supplies that you would need on a farm. It was legit!”

So there you have it! Sometimes the glamour of Hollywood is just a regular old hardware store in New Mexico.
