R.I.P. Shifty Shellshock: Crazy Town Singer And ‘Celebrity Rehab’ Patient Dead At 49

Shifty Shellshock, the singer for the rap rock group Crazy Town and a former patient on VH1‘s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew has died.

Shellshock, whose real name was Seth Binzer, was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Monday, June 24, per The Daily Beast. No cause of death has been released.

Shellshock’s struggles with addiction were featured on Celebrity Rehab, where he spoke openly about his drug use in the past. Shellshock appeared on Seasons 1 and 2 of the show, which both aired in 2008, where he underwent treatment for cocaine addiction.

He subsequently appeared on two seasons of Celebrity Rehab‘s spin-off, Sober House.

Shellshock is the latest celebrity who appeared on Celebrity Rehab to have died. Among the previously deceased are wrestler Joanie “Chyna” Laurer, who died in 2016 after taking a lethal combination of drugs and alcohol, and more recently, in 2023, actor Tom Sizemore passed away after a brain aneurysm.

Dr. Drew Pinsky chose to end the show in 2013 after 6 seasons on the air. He said at the time, “It’s very stressful and very intense for me,” per The Hollywood Reporter. “To have people questioning my motives and taking aim at me because people get sick and die because they have a life-threatening disease, and I take the blame? Rodney King has a heart attack and I take blame for that?”

As a musician, Shellshock gained fame with Crazy Town thanks to their 2000 single “Butterfly,” which appeared on the band’s debut album, The Gift of Game. He would later go on to perform as a solo artist.

Shellshock leaves behind three children.
