It’s an Only Murders in the Building reunion!

Steve Martin joined his co-star and longtime collaborator Martin Short on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (June 24), where Short is one of several celebrity guests who will be hosting this summer.

While Short was set to interview Martin later on in the broadcast, it looks like Martin just couldn’t wait since he walked out in the middle of Short’s monologue.

After Short told Martin that he was a bit “early” for his cue, Martin responded, “I’m so excited that you’re hosting Kimmel, I just wanted to get out here as soon as possible and then get home.”

Thus began a hilarious — yet brutal — roasting session between the co-stars. “Oh that’s right, Monday is meatloaf night at the senior center,” Short replied. “I keep forgetting.”

Later in the monologue, Martin insinuated that Short was Kimmel’s second choice for host. “I was honored when Jimmy asked me to be the first guest host and I said no,” he told Short. “I said, ‘You’ll be able to find someone who will do it for scale, don’t you worry.'”

He added, “I love Marty, he’s one of the hardest working men in show business because it just doesn’t come naturally to him.”

Martin would surely know; the stars have been working together on Only Murders in the Building since 2021, but this is just the latest of several projects in which the comedians have co-starred, including the Father of the Bride trilogy.

“Thank you, by the way,” Short fired back. “That means a great deal. And I have to tell you what a joy it is to share the stage with someone who looks like he could be selling reverse mortgages.”

Short couldn’t help but laugh when Martin told him he looks like a “women’s tennis champion.” Instead, he told him to get backstage and wait for his cue. “It’s almost time for the interview so you better go yell at the staff one more time,” he said, prompting Martin to leave the stage.

“Walk towards the light, Steve!” Short yelled as Martin walked off stage. “Walk towards the light!”

Martin is the first of several Only Murders in the Building stars who will be visiting Short at the iconic El Capitan Entertainment Centre this week to promote the new season.

Jane Lynch will appear tonight, followed by Selena Gomez on Wednesday (June 26) and Melissa McCarthy on Thursday (June 27).
