Dearest gentle readers, we have the most exciting Bridgerton Season 4 news to share today: Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) officially has his Sophie Beckett! Variety’s Joel Otterson reports that Netflix and Shondaland have cast Yerin Ha to play Benedict’s love interest in Bridgerton Season 4.

Last month, Netflix confirmed that Bridgerton Season 4 would not only focus on Benedict Bridgerton, but that he would be meeting a mysterious “Lady in Silver” at his mother’s masquerade ball. Fans of Julia Quinn’s novels immediately clocked that Sophie Beckett would indeed show up in the series.

Sophie is a bit of a fan favorite as she is the only Bridgerton love interest who comes from the lower classes. An earl’s bastard daughter, she is forced into service after her father’s untimely death allows her literally evil stepmother to abuse her. For one night, the other servants contrive to send Sophie out to attend the Bridgerton’s masked ball. There, her beauty and unbridled joy immediately catch Benedict’s eye. However, she leaves before the clock strikes midnight, setting off Bridgerton‘s tangled version of a Cinderella story, which includes Benedict eventually hiring Sophie to be his own maid, unaware she is the woman he’s been dreaming of.

Yerin Ha is a 29-year-old Australian actress known for her work on Halo, Bad Behavior, and the upcoming Dune: Prophecy. Ha is the daughter of Korean parents who met in drama school. You can follow Ha on Instagram @yerinha_.

Because Ha will be the show’s first East Asian lead, it’s unclear if her character’s name will still be Sophie Beckett. When Simone Ashley was cast as Anthony’s love interest, her character’s name was changed from Katharine “Kate” Sheffield to Kathani “Kate” Sharma.

Either way, Bridgerton — and Benedict — finally have their Sophie. And Bridgerton fans can begin the countdown to Bridgerton Season 4.
