Jeff Goldblum used his final night hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live to accomplish a good deed in Hollywood: Helping young actors qualify for health insurance.

The Asteroid City actor explained on the show that working-class actors who are part of the Screen Actors Guild need to meet a minimum income every year in order to qualify for health insurance. So, the people at Live put out a casting call and hired a couple of actors to appear on the show so they could meet the qualifying amount.

“The vast majority of actors are working-class people just trying to make ends meet,” Goldblum told the audience during his opening monologue. “They actually have to make a certain amount of money each year just to qualify for health coverage through the Screen Actors Guild, and that’s not an easy thing to do. Sometimes an actor can be so close to that threshold of earnings that they only need to land one more role to qualify. So tonight, I’m going to help a few actors who are in that very situation for real by casting them in a role on the show.”

He continued, “In fact, I’ve cast them all in the same role. Isn’t that right, Jeff Goldblum?”

Actor Sean Moran sidled up to the Jurassic Park star, dressed in a flashy button down and leather jacket that feels reminiscent of Goldblum’s personal style. He then gave his best Goldblum impersonation, replying to the host, “That is absolutely correct. And if I might, if I may, you are looking rather ravishing, Mr. Goldblum.”

Goldblum replied, “You as well, dapper doppelgänger you are.” He explained that Moran was $401 away from qualifying for his health insurance this year, which he planned to use to go see a podiatrist.

There were several more where that came from. Each actor performed their best Goldblum impersonation, while the host highlighted just how close they were to meeting the minimum income for health care. The actors also revealed why they needed the insurance, noting they’d use it to attend a dermatologist or to get a root canal.

He later used “another substitute Goldblum” to throw it to commercial.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, SAG-AFTRA decreed that actors must make at least $27,00 in earnings or work a minimum of 104 days throughout 12 months to qualify for health insurance. Deadline reports that number is expected to increase by 2% every year.

THR notes that, in 2023, only 25,000 of the 160,000 members of SAG-AFTRA met the health insurance requirements.

This isn’t the first time Jimmy Kimmel Live has pulled this stunt. Two years ago, Kerry Washington also helped a group of actors who were close to the income requirement cross that threshold.
