‘Gidget’

A single-camera comedy about a teenage girl navigating crushes and talking about sex and life with her widower father, all while regularly breaking the fourth wall to share her unfiltered thoughts with the audience. Sounds like any number of shows on-air today, but I’m actually talking about Gidget! Yeah, Gidget, the teen sitcom that made Sally Field a star in the mid ’60s. This show was ridiculously ahead of its time and gave teens the honest, hyper-emotional representation on an unprecedented level. Of course this show was too real and too weird for audiences at the time, meaning it got canned after just one season. But all of these giddy, goofy, and groundbreaking episodes are available to stream for free on Tubi. With its surf city setting and happening retro style, Gidget is the show that will get you in the mood for summer.
