‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’
Listen: I’m not here to say that The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is a good movie. I don’t even think I can classify it as a memorable movie. But I can — and will — vouch for it as a ridiculously bonkers ride to take for the price of $0 if you already have a HBO Max account. The movie is full of WTF moments and gags, which is especially surprising considering it’s otherwise a paint-by-numbers action movie. But you know what really makes this movie worth checking out? Salma Hayek’s completely unhinged, tour de force turn as the titular wife of a hitman. She’s raunchy, bawdy, sensitive, nurturing, vicious — she brings big Eva Gabor energy to this movie, but if Eva Gabor cursed more than Samuel L. Jackson and carried a machine gun.
