iPhone screen dims in sunlight

I’ve been having this issue for some months now and haven’t received any understanding as to why this happens. At least let the brightness be the same while using the phone in direct sunlight but no, it gets darker making it harder to see the screen. Even when I leave the sunlight into a dark area the dim remains. Is there fix for this? I’ve also considered the auto brightness adjustment and turned it off and resetting my phone and updating it but this doesn’t resolve the issue.

Most iPhones will auto-dim when the internal temperature is too high. Not sure if this is what you're seeing, but when it auto-dims it won't go back until it cools down.

Hey there, AaronIOS.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Thanks for posting about the trouble you're having with the display brightness on your iPhone. We'd be glad to see how we can help you out.

You took a great initial step in adjusting the brightness on your device. What you more than likely are experiencing is something called True Tone, which adjusts both the color and intensity of the display based on the available light in the environment. Check out the "Turn True Tone on or off" section of Adjust the screen brightness and color on iPhone for steps to do that. If the issue continues after that, verify again that Auto-Brightness is off in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.

Let us know what you find out.

Be well.
