📢 Successful Trial in UK Kerbside Circular Recycling We are pleased to share that a group of industry experts, working together under the UK Plastics Pact, has successfully proven that UK kerbside collected tray waste can be recycled back into new food trays. This trial demonstrates that true circularity is possible, keeping valuable materials within the UK supply chain and reducing our need for virgin resources. Our thanks go to all the partners involved for their collaborative spirit and dedication to this important achievement. This is a positive step forward in our collective journey towards a more sustainable future. 🔗https://lnkd.in/e_9FqSNn #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Recycling #UKPlasticsPact

From Clarity to Circularity: Setting a new standard    As the packaging industry shifts towards circular materials to meet ESG and sustainability goals, and evolving stakeholder expectations, we at Faerch are leading the way.   Jesper Emil Jensen, Faerch's Regional CEO – UK & Europe North & South, explains, “Our journey towards full circularity in rigid food packaging can be simplified as moving 'from clarity to circularity. We have seen this journey happen for the PET bottle, now the PET tray is next up for circularity.'”   He adds, "Tray rPET naturally varies in tone due to the recycling process and the different fractions used. Embracing rPET as a high-quality material is crucial for advancing our circular economy, reducing the need for virgin materials, and ensuring stable pricing in a resource-strained world.   To demonstrate our commitment to ensuring a circular lifecycle for the products we bring to market, we have invested in a cutting-edge recycling facility in Duiven, Netherlands. Through this dedicated investment Faerch established itself as one of the first integrated recyclers in the packaging industry. Since 2018, Faerch has been recycling post- consumer household PET waste back into high-quality packaging. Recent investments have tripled our capacity to manage 60,000 tonnes of tray feedstock from post-consumer waste annually. Faerch aims to give a circular life to all its packaging, producing around 24 billion items each year while expanding efforts across Europe. “Our role as packaging converter with integrated recycling capabilities with our own infrastructure for recycled tray rPET sets a new industry standard,” says Jensen.   Want to learn more about our approach to true circularity through rPET? Stay tuned for more details in our upcoming thought leadership article on tray rPET recycling and circularity. ♻   #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Recycling #TrayrPET #Faerch #Innovation #FoodPackaging #IntegratedRecycling #circularrecycling

♻️95% Return Rate Achieved!♻️ At this year’s Smukfest Festival, we made a significant change by replacing traditional single-use plastic cups with innovative, circular cups from Faerch. These cups are designed to be returned and recycled into an endless loop, drastically reducing the need for new plastic in production - a smart solution for a more sustainable future!💚 While our initial goal was to collect 75% of the cups, we are thrilled to share that Smukfest achieved an impressive 95% return rate out of over one million cups used during the festival. This is an incredible accomplishment!🏆 Developed through a collaboration between Royal Unibrew, Faerch Group, Dansk Retursystem A/S and MultiLine A/S, these cups are also being tested at 35 other events and festivals this year. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Innovation #FaerchGroup #Smukfest #RoyalUnibrew #DanskRetursystem #MultiLine

Ever wondered what happens to your PET waste after it goes into the recycling?   Understanding the recycling process of rigid food packaging, like PET trays, is crucial for advancing a circular economy. At Faerch, we're committed to increasing industry knowledge and public awareness about how these materials are repurposed to reduce waste and conserve resources. 🔄   Our recycling plant, Cirrec, serves as the central hub for circular recycling, where the transformation journey of post consumer PET waste begins....   1️⃣ Sorting PET Bales: Meticulous sorting of collected PET bales to ensure purity. 2️⃣ Grinding into Flake: The sorted PET is ground into flake, beginning the transformation process. 3️⃣ Washing the Flakes: Flakes are thoroughly washed to remove any contaminants. 4️⃣ Sorting and Refining Flakes: Additional sorting and refining of the cleaned flakes. 5️⃣ Pelletising: The refined flakes are converted into pellets ready to be made into new PET Sheet at Faerch’s manufacturing sites.   Repurposing resources we already have isn't just important; it is now essential for a sustainable future. Let’s continue to spread knowledge and drive change in the industry! ♻️ #CircularEconomy #Faerch #Cirrec #PET #Recycling

True transformation of an entire industry requires the power of collaborative efforts and a partnership approach.🤝 At Faerch Group, we not only believe in collaboration and strategic partnerships, we live it every day. Through the acquisition of Paccor in 2022, Faerch today has four factories based in Poland. In 2023 we signed the Polish Plastics Pact, reaffirming Faerch's commitment to true circularity and minimising our environmental impact. “The Polish Plastics Pact provides us with a common platform and allows us to collaborate with like-minded organisations dedicated to reducing plastic waste and promoting a circular economy, including government bodies, NGOs, and other industry leaders” ,says Zbigniew Woźnica, Managing Director Poland. The Pact’s aim is to change the current model of using plastics in packaging on the Polish market towards a circular economy and its members are committed to deliver six common targets by 2025.  Przemysław Księżarek, Sales Director Industrial Food, adds: “Our involvement not only reinforces our position as an industry leader in Poland, but also sets a benchmark for our operations globally.” Our strategic partnership with the Polish Plastics Pact, which is the third Plastics Pact signed by Faerch, underscores our unwavering commitment to accelerate the transition towards a circular plastics economy for food packaging around the globe. Join us on our journey towards true circularity in food packaging! Together, we can create more effective and scalable solutions to tackle plastic pollution and thus create a cleaner and more responsible world. 🌱💚     Read more about The Polish Plastics Pact here: https://lnkd.in/eK8jbHiU #CircularEconomy #Faerch #PolishPlasticsPact #InnovativeSolutions #PlasticWasteReduction #EnvironmentalResponsibility

We're excited about the advancements in PET tray recycling, with capacity expected to exceed 300,000 tonnes annually by 2025. This reflects the industry's commitment to sustainability and the circular economy by adding a new recycling stream, alongside bottle PET. At Faerch, we are dedicated to leading the way in tray-to-tray recycling. With our own flagship recycling facility at Cirrec in the Netherlands, we have recently tripled our recycling capacity to manage 60,000 tonnes of tray feedstock from post-consumer waste! Let's continue to work together to make plastics truly circular. ♻💚🗑➡🌀

PET tray recycling is evolving ♻️ The estimated recycling capacity was 50,000 tonnes in 2022 and is expected to reach over 300,000 tonnes/year by 2025. However, only a few Member States currently collect and sort PET trays for recycling and face several challenges such as: 👉 High level of impurities in the tray bales 👉 Large variability in the type and colour of feedstock 👉 Insufficient collection and non-standardised sorting activities. Further clarity in legislative developments and more cooperation across the value chain are key to the development of tray-to-tray recycling.
