🏭 An overwhelming majority of the 2000 most influential companies are not ready to implement the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) as they currently fail to implement any key Human Rights Due Diligence steps   The World Benchmarking Alliance's report highlights a critical gap in corporate readiness for the upcoming CSDDD and Forced Labour regulations set to take effect in 2027. While companies are making strides in environmental due diligence, the same urgency has not been applied to addressing human rights concerns. The analysis of the 2000 most influential companies reveals that: 🚩 80% scored zero points on key HRDD (Human Rights Due Diligence) steps such as identifying, assessing, and addressing human rights risks and impacts. 🚩 20% have begun implementing some initial HRDD measure 🔵 only 6% have fully integrated these practices There's a significant opportunity for improvement in ensuring robust human rights due diligence. 🌍 EU's Forced Labour Regulation strengthens ethical business practices The EU has adopted a regulation banning products made with forced labour, requiring companies to enhance transparency across their supply chains. With around 28 million people trapped in forced labour globally, this regulation is vital for protecting vulnerable populations and ensuring fair competition. To comply with these new standards, here's how companies should get started: 1️⃣ Impact assessment: map your supply chain to identify areas at heightened risk of forced labour, leveraging insights from your CSRD double materiality assessment. 2️⃣ Grievance mechanisms: establish accessible grievance mechanisms to address forced labour risks across your value chain. 3️⃣ Risk-based supply chain assessment: conduct thorough investigations of suppliers and sub-suppliers with a high risk of forced labour. ❗ We have to talk about business models! Many companies, if not most, will struggle to meet their climate targets if they do not address their business model. At Børsen's Sustainability Summit, Sven Beyersdorff spoke about the most pressing corporate sustainability challenges. A key challenge is that most companies aim to grow, thereby also driving up GHG emissions (and other negative impacts) - unless they find a way to provide more value with less resource consumption.
