Welcome, Santiago Nahuel C. 🥳 We are very happy to announce the strengthening of our team with a Project Manager – Santiago! At NorFalk, Santiago will lead the reaction optimization of our main product and be a part of the regulatory team. Santiago holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and Biocatalysis from Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina, and has completed two post docs (that also revolved around biocatalysis) at Aarhus University. In total, Santiago has more than 8 years of research experience. “For many years, I have had a profound interest in sustainability. I have been particularly curious about how to apply green chemistry at a large industrial scale, where you can make a big difference for planetary health versus the conventional processes,” Santiago says. He continues, “I was fortunate to be introduced to NorFalk by my university supervisor, Selin Kara. I quickly found the company to be a great match due to its green mission, but also its dynamic work environment. I look forward to incorporating my ideas, since it motivates me that my work will have an actual impact on the manufacturing of our products.” Outside of work, Santiago resides in Aarhus and plays rugby in Aarhus Rugby club, where his position is wing. 🏉🪽 He also likes to read, run and exercise – and he is learning Danish, currently wrapping up his last language module. Welcome, Denis Palacioglu 🥳 We are very happy to announce the strengthening of our team with a Head of Commercial – Denis! At NorFalk, Denis will work on our commercial strategy, and identify growth opportunities, analyzing trends and evaluating potential new markets. Moreover, he will drive product and pipeline development in collaboration with our lab team. In this way, Denis will play a key role in our process of scaling up.    Denis holds a M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry as well as a master's degree in management for Engineers. Denis brings a wealth of leadership experience gained at companies such Evonik, Cargill and CPKelco, growing businesses within nature-derived ingredients and biosciences. “I’m off to a great start with NorFalk. I already appreciate the team of energetic and ambitious people. Prior to joining the team, I was impressed with NorFalk being a part of the prestigious BioInnovation Institute ecosystem. Moreover, I was intrigued by NorFalk’s biocatalysis solution for creating sustainable ingredients for the personal care, home care and beauty products." Denis continues, “I firmly believe that the company’s technology holds the potential to become a transformative factor in the bio-based surfactants-industry, and on an even larger scale, to be disruptive when it comes to planetary health. I really look forward to contributing to NorFalk reaching the next milestones.” Outside of work, Denis enjoys football, windsurfing, and preparing fermented foods such as sourdough bread for friends and family. Welcome, Liviu Creciun 🥳 We are very happy to announce the strengthening of our team with a Laboratory Technician – Liviu! At NorFalk, Liviu will primarily undertake tasks within the process of upscaling the production of our bio-based surfactants. He will also be responsible for our lab inventory and assist the lab team. Liviu is from Moldova, and has previously lived in Ireland, but he moved to Denmark in 2019. Impressively, he already understands written Danish very well! 👏 Liviu holds an A.P. degree in chemical and biotechnical science from Erhvervsakademi Aarhus | Business Academy Aarhus, which he completed in 2023. “It’s amazing to think that the bio-based surfactants that we produce in the lab can be transferred to a much bigger scale, and thereby made accessible to everyone. My friends and family didn’t know what surfactants were, nor that they are key ingredients in everyday products, but now they’re excited about NorFalk producing this key ingredient in a more sustainable way.” Liviu continues, “Both the role and the work culture at NorFalk appealed to me, when I saw the job post. I really like this Brain Break concept of working out together three times a week.” – Liviu. Earlier today, the BioInnovation Institute (BII) made a big announcement. Christian Brix Tillegreen, Director of Planetary Health at BioInnovation Institute, says: "The significant R&D progress achieved by NorFalk, combined with the building of an entrepreneurial and competent team, plus establishing a professional and experienced board of directors, is the reason why we at BII have chosen to back NorFalk with an additional 10 million DKK in financial support via our Venture House program." As BII writes in their own post from this morning, "The Venture House program offers Venture Lab companies follow-on funding of DKK 10M and an additional 18-month-long program consisting of four executive sprints, each focused on a key development area to help mature the project and ultimately attract further funding. 💸💡" We're very proud and grateful for the faith BII has had in us from the very beginning. As of February 1st, Helena will begin her new position as R&D Manager at NorFalk 🎉   Her new responsibilities include: ✔️Daily management of R&D projects ✔️Soft funding and partnerships responsibilities ✔️Responsible for IP planning, maintaining, and sending in new patent applications. As we’re growing as a company, soon moving into new, much larger lab facilities, we consider it perfect timing to have Helena take on this new and important role within the R&D team. Promoting Helena is a strategic decision that ensures that our increasingly demanding R&D efforts stay on track. Additionally, it enables us to expand our R&D efforts towards developing additional new sustainable surfactants. “During my first year at NorFalk, I have found project management very interesting. This includes the well-being of my colleagues, but also defining and developing funding and IP strategy efforts. In fact, I have already begun putting work hours into the IP area, sparring with our competent advisor, Cornelius Bessler,” Helena says.   “In summary, moving forward, I will play a more strategic and managerial role in realizing the overall goal of becoming a world-leader within sustainable surfactants. At the latter, she served in several VP positions leading global biosolutions businesses with strong commercial results as well as different corporate functions. This year's NorFalk Christmas dinner was a blast! We held it at Galåre (Guldsmedgade in Aarhus), where we enjoyed an x-mas-inspired 4-course dinner. We can HIGHLY recommend this restaurant and the entire staff from kitchen to waiters and owners. They were SO friendly and helpful, and both food and drinks were top notch 🤌😋 (link to the place in comments). Daniel, Oliver and I had the pleasure of organizing everything this year, and with everything from a music quiz (which Vivian excelled at by the way!) to personal quests and small activities that involved balloons and beer pong cups...
