🌾 We recently celebrated a successful rice harvest with our dedicated partner farmers. 🌱 The celebration took place in the beautiful fields of Klumutan Village, Madiun Regency, Indonesia. The event is part of the Low Carbon Rice Project, implemented by Preferred by Nature, the Koalisi Rakyat untuk Kedaulatan Pangan (KRKP) and the Perkumpulan Penggilingan Padi dan Pengusaha Beras Indonesia (PERPADI), and supported by the EU SWITCH-Asia Programme.   Joined by the EU delegations to Indonesia, the event kicked off with a heartfelt “wiwitan” ceremony—a local tradition expressing gratitude for the bountiful harvest. 💪 But it wasn’t just about celebrating. We also rolled up our sleeves for a collaborative discussion on building stronger partnerships and shaping policies to advance a sustainable rice value chain.   This harvest marked another milestone for the Low Carbon Rice Project in supporting the transformation of the country’s rice sector. 🤝 Since 2022, we've helped 34 small rice millers switch from diesel to electric engines, with more on the way!   🍚 Support for the project continues to grow. The Village Community Empowerment Agency (Dinas PMD) has also joined forces with us through a partnership scheme to support rice production that maintains land quality, climate stability and food security in the Madiun area.   💡 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gjCXX8TV

☕️ Our team in Ethiopia recently conducted a targeted seminar on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and its implications for the coffee sector in the region. 🤝 The event brought together key players, including coffee exporters, traders and farmers’ associations, to explore the regulatory landscape that will shape the future of East Africa’s coffee exports. Our Global Market Development Director, Sandra Razanamandranto, led the discussion with insights and actionable solutions to help coffee producers navigate the challenges of EUDR compliance. 🎙️We were honoured to have a representative from the EU Delegation to Ethiopia in the session to discuss the key EUDR elements and its expected impact on the region. 🌍 The event was also joined by a representative from the Danish Embassy. 🌱 With a significant portion of East Africa’s coffee produced by smallholder farmers, the EUDR adds complexity to maintaining access to European markets. Safeguarding the livelihoods of local farmers and ensuring continued market access requires the implementation of robust compliance measures within the sector. 💡Learn more about the EUDR and how we can support you here: https://lnkd.in/gscfvKx3

#ExcitingNews: 📢 We have joined forces with Rakyat Berjaya Sdn Bhd (Yayasan Sabah Group) to launch an ambitious forest restoration project in the Silam Coast Conservation Area (SCCA), in Lahad Datu, Sabah. 🤝 Today, our Executive Director, Peter Feilberg, signed the agreement on behalf of Preferred by Nature, formalising this crucial collaboration with Yayasan Sabah Group. At Preferred by Nature, we are dedicated to tackling global climate change. Over the past five years, we have diligently worked to measure and reduce our carbon footprint, though some travel remains essential to our mission. Rather than relying on traditional carbon offsetting, we have opted for a hands-on approach. This decision is the driving force behind the SCCA Restoration Project. 🌳 This multi-phase, eight-year project aims to rehabilitate 100 hectares of degraded forest within the SCCA. By restoring these areas, we seek to enhance biodiversity, protect endangered wildlife, and contribute meaningfully to the global fight against climate change. The project adheres to the Preferred by Nature Ecosystem Restoration Standard, which provides a structured approach for field-level verification. Combining scientific expertise with local knowledge, the project will focus on restoring degraded areas, removing invasive species, and preparing the soil for regeneration. 🧑🌾 Beyond environmental benefits, this initiative is set to generate social impact by creating employment opportunities and improving infrastructure, thereby uplifting local communities. 🌍 The Conservation & Environmental Management Division of Yayasan Sabah Group will oversee the project, ensuring all efforts adhere to sustainable rainforest management principles. Meanwhile, Preferred by Nature will fund various activities, including tree planting, project staff employment, equipment purchase, rehabilitation works, research and training, and the repair and maintenance of facilities and machinery. Through this project, we hope to inspire other organisations to invest directly in ecosystem restoration as a means to offset their carbon and biodiversity impact. ✨ Learn more about the project: https://ow.ly/KAc150T3I2K Photos by Nicholas Fong Vui Chik / Preferred by Nature

🎉 Wow - It’s Our Birthday Today! 🎉 Today marks a significant milestone—30 years since our journey began. As I looked at our records in the Danish business registry this morning, I realized: it all started on this very day. Thirty years ago, a group of passionate students from the Danish NGO "The Rainforest Group Nepenthes" gathered and decided to establish what was then known as Nepenthes Consult. The mission was clear—to promote and support sustainable, closer-to-nature forest management. 🌍🌱 I wasn’t there at the very beginning, but I joined a few months later and vividly remember walking up the narrow stairs to our tiny attic office. None of us could have imagined that this small initiative would grow into an international organization, now active in 106 countries and working with everyone from small farmers to global corporations. 🌎🤝 Our achievements over the past three decades have been a collective effort with many committed partners, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey. We've built something truly special together, and we have every reason to be proud. 💪✨ As we look ahead, the need for organizations like Preferred by Nature, with our focus on people, nature, and the climate, is more urgent than ever. I’m excited to see where the next 30 years will take us. 🚀 PICTURE: One of our early projects starting in 1999 was supporting the protection of Maliau Basin in Sabah, Malaysia. We are still engaged. In fact, I look forward to going there next week.
