Ever wish you had a helping hand to air out every day? You are not alone. Studies show that with electric windows, people ventilate their homes twice as often compared to manual windows. The recommendation is to let in fresh air 3-4 times a day to avoid moisture and a bad indoor environment. Did you know that damp and mouldy environments can increase the risk of developing asthma by 40%? Damp dwellings can also provoke allergic reactions. There is only one effective long-term solution to beat the consequences of a poor indoor climate – to replace the stale air with fresh air. Good thing we can let technology do the work when it is difficult to reach those flat roof windows 🤝🔌

Same quality blinds ➡️ A significantly lower carbon footprint In 1955, we introduced the first VELUX blinds on the market. Today, with a similar classic design, our Nature Collection blinds remain committed to quality, but are primarily made from recycled materials, which reduces their embodied carbon footprint by 50% compared to standard VELUX blinds. They are crafted from at least 50% recycled fabric, 75% recycled aluminium, and delivered in 100% plastic-free packaging ♻️

Consider this: We could save 44% of the energy used for indoor space heating if we renovate all residential buildings in the EU to energy-efficient standards. This is not just a number — it is a massive opportunity for both economic savings and environmental impact. It is quite simple; the less energy we waste, the less we need to produce. Buildings are major players in our energy landscape, accounting for over a third of greenhouse gas emissions and 40% of energy consumption in the EU. This makes them prime targets for energy efficiency improvements. By investing in renovations, we can reduce emissions, cut down on energy bills, and create healthier living environments benefitting all Europeans💡🌍

Can you spot the difference? On a hot Summer day, you would probably FEEL the difference 🥵 As climate-related heatwaves become more intense, excess heat is becoming a bigger problem for everyone. To counter this, sales of air conditioners are expected to double over the next 20 years. While this can make indoor temperatures more comfortable in the short term, it will have negative consequences for the climate in the long term. But there are other ways. Did you know that an anti-heat blind can help lower the experienced temperature in a room by up to 5°C? For VELUX flat roof windows, we have designed a blind that is discreetly placed inside the roof light, which protects you from heat without shutting out daylight completely.

How can we make more responsible material choices in our built environments and beyond? 🏡🌍 We welcomed five experts in the field of materials with unique backgrounds in architecture, design, research and art to share insights and explore different perspectives in a lively discussion at Living Places Copenhagen. The event was hosted by Lone Feifer and moderated by Toke Falk Sabroe, who facilitated a multi-disciplinary discussion that found a red thread in a need for more consideration in the materials that comprise our everyday lives. Hattie Hartman HonFRIBA, shared her new book on materials and discussed the way forward needed to normalize the consideration and selection of responsible materials to minimize our impact on the environment. Danish designer Sara Martinsen, curator of the Living Places Materials Exhibition, shared her thoughts on why it is so important to get to know the materials we use. The conversations explored material pathways that are healthier for people and planet – with concrete examples, experiments and lessons shared by Niklas Nolsøe, Vicki Thake and Tyler Moersch. Unity in Rebuilding Ukraine 🤝🏡 At VELUX, we believe in collective action to drive meaningful change. Partnering with SOS Børnebyerne, we’re proud to pioneer alternative care environments for children in Ukraine. These homes will combine social sustainability with healthy, affordable, low-carbon living, reforming the childcare sector and showcasing our scalable Living Places concept. Though our contribution is modest in the grand scheme of things, we believe in the power of this project to inspire action, not only within the building industry but also in supporting the reconstruction efforts - shaping a brighter future for Ukraine and beyond. Many partners, including Villum Foundation, Viessmann Foundation, GRUNDFOS Foundation, Bitten & Mads Clausens Foundation, FONDATION SOMFY, DOVISTA, Flügger group A/S, VELUX Ukraine, Kromann Reumert, and Export and Investment Fund of Denmark, are joining this effort. An inspiring example of cross-sector collaboration! #RebuildUkraine #SlavaUkraini #ChildrensLivingPlaces
