Reinforcements have arrived for the Texas Rangers as starting pitcher Max Scherzer makes his season debut at home against the Kansas City Royals.

Kansas City Royals vs. Texas Rangers (-162, 8)

Scherzer made three minor league rehab appearances at the AAA to get ramped up for this start, posting a 4.91 ERA with three home runs and three walks allowed across his 11 total innings.

In Scherzer’s 11 appearances with Texas last season between the regular season and playoffs, he posted a 3.79, allowing nearly 1.2 home runs and 3.3 walks per nine innings.

The Rangers support Scherzer with a bullpen with a 4.73 ERA, which ranks 27th among the 30 MLB teams while the Royals 4.20 ERA in the bullpen ranks 20th.

Entering Saturday, the Royals ranked ninth in the league with 4.7 runs per game and look to starting Alex Marsh to make the most of the support.

Marsh enters having allowed at least four runs in four of his past five starts, posting a 4.37 ERA with 1.2 home runs per nine innings allowed this season, which balloons to a 5.29 ERA with 1.7 home runs allowed per nine innings on the road.

With possible concern with this debut for Scherzer being moved from Saturday to Sunday coupled with both bullpens being in the bottom half of the league in runs per game, the fireworks of Scherzer’s debut will be drowned out by the fireworks at the plate.
