Fantasy Baseball Picks Today: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Targets, Values for June 22

Zach Thompson gives his top studs and value plays for Saturday’s fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings.

MLB: Miami Marlins at Washington Nationals Daniel Kucin Jr.-USA TODAY Sports

There are four fascinating games on the Saturday night slate this week on DraftKings, which starts at 7:15 p.m. ET with the two primetime games on FOX. The Braves are in the Bronx to take on the Yankees for one of those games while the NL Central-leading Brewers visit the Padres in the other. Coors Field enters the mix in the third game of the night as the Nats and Rockies meet for the second game of their three-game set, and the final matchup of the night is a showdown between the two teams from Los Angeles as the Dodgers welcome in the Angels.

Let’s take a look at the top studs and values for DFS fantasy baseball action from the eight-team player pool this Saturday.

PITCHER

Stud

Tyler Glasnow, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Los Angeles Angels ($11,800) – Glasnow is by far the most expensive pitcher on the board this Saturday, but there are lots of reasons to love paying up for him. Glasnow has a great matchup against the struggling Angels and is 7-5 in his 15 starts this season for the Dodgers with a 3.00 ERA and 2.66 FIP. His main fantasy asset though is his strikeout rate, which leads the National League at 12.1 K/9. He has at least eight strikeouts in each of his last four starts and 38 strikeouts in 26 innings over that span for a 13.2 K/9 rate. In each of those four starts, he has produced over 22 DKFP including a masterful 35.4-DKFP performance in his most recent start which was at home against the Royals. While he has had a few rough outings, for the most part, Glasnow has lived up to expectations since being acquired to take over as the team’s Ace. He should be set up to dominate on Saturday since the Angels have scored the second-fewest runs in the MLB over the last 30 days while hitting just .222 as a team with a .291 wOBA and wRC+ of only 86.

Value

Cal Quantrill, Colorado Rockies vs. Washington Nationals ($6,000) – Quantrill has been the one Rockies pitcher that I’ve regularly recommended this season, and while I don’t love the matchup at elevation on Saturday, he does make a lot of sense at only $6,000, especially with the limited other value options in play. Quantrill has done a great job all season at limiting damage even though he doesn’t have huge strikeout potential. He has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his last nine games, and the only two exceptions were both against the Dodgers. During that span, the veteran righty is 6-2 with a 2.25 ERA and 3.35 FIP while putting up over 20 DraftKings points in six of those nine contests. If he gets near that level again this Saturday, he should be worth a look even with the Coors Field factor working against him.

INFIELD

Stud

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Los Angeles Angels ($6,600) – Ohtani and Glasnow are both off to fantastic starts to their Dodgers careers and have been dominant pay-up plays since joining the team this past offseason. Ohtani is second in the National League with his .318 batting average and leads the NL with a .427 wOBA and 21 home runs. He went 2-for-4 with another home run in the series opener on Friday and has seven long balls in his last 11 games while hitting .400 (16-for-40) with a .610 wOBA and an average of 17 DKFP per contest. Ohtani and the Dodgers face Zach Plesac ($6,800) as they go for their second straight victory over the halos.

Stud

C.J. Abrams, Washington Nationals at Colorado Rockies ($6,200) – Abrams was scratched on Wednesday with a wrist issue but was able to return on Friday for the Nats’ series opener in Denver. He went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a stolen base and 26 DKFP and has hit safely in 12 straight games. He’s hitting .367 (18-for-49) over that stretch and is up to .267 for the season with 11 home runs, 11 stolen bases and a .345 wOBA. Abrams is expected to be atop the Nationals order at Coors Field again on Saturday night, so his blend of power and speed should continue to generate runs and DKFP. Even though I like Quantrill as a value, getting some exposure to Washington’s lineup is a must on his small slate, especially after they racked up 11 runs in the series opener.

Value

Brendan Rodgers, Colorado Rockies vs. Washington Nationals ($3,000) – Rodgers was officially reinstated from the 10-day IL on Friday but did not appear in the Rockies loss to Washington. He should be ready to be back in the mix on Saturday, though, against lefty Mitchell Parker ($7,400), and he’s a great value at only $3,000, especially at Coors Field. Rodgers hit a solid .275 with a .306 wOBA before the injury and was heating up over his last 20 games, hitting .308 (24-for-78) with a .347 wOBA. He had two of his three home runs this year in his last nine games before landing on IL. He’ll look to pick up where he left off, and he gets a nice boost from facing a lefty. Against southpaws this season, Rodgers has hit .347 with two homers and a .399 wOBA.

Value

Ben Rice, New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves ($2,900) – Rice is a nice play under $3,000, and if you play him at 1B to save some salary, Ohtani is still an option in an outfield spot. According to MLB Pipeline, Rice is the Yankees’ No. 12 prospect, and the rookie is getting a chance to fill in at 1B while Anthony Rizzo (arm) is sidelined. Rice has gone 2-for-11 (.182) in his four games since joining the Yankees but showed the potential for much more in Double-A and Triple-A to start the season. He slashed .275/.393/.532 with 15 home runs and nine stolen bases in 60 games before being called up. As a left-handed hitter at Yankee Stadium, Rice’s power gives him a high ceiling for a starting option at this salary.

OUTFIELD

Stud

Christian Yelich, Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres ($5,800) – Yelich is having a Renaissance year so far for the Brewers with a .324 batting average and .391 wOBA, which would be his highest marks since 2019. He and the Brewers are in a good matchup against the struggling Randy Vasquez ($5,900), who has given up 27 runs and 10 home runs in his 42 23 innings in the MLB this season. Vasquez has let lefties like Yelich hit .465 against him with a .531 wOBA. Yelich comes into this favorable spot with good momentum after going 13-for-35 (.371) with one home run and four stolen bases over his last nine games, averaging 11.6 DKFP per contest over that span.

Stud

Lane Thomas, Washington Nationals at Colorado Rockies ($5,100) – Thomas is only hitting .238 on the season with a .311 wOBA, but the 28-year-old righty has been much better than those numbers lately. After three hits on Friday, he’s 17-for-51 (.315) over his last 14 games with a .437 wOBA. Thomas usually hits second in the order after Abrams and both bring a nice blend of power and speed that gives them a high ceiling and makes them an exceptional mini-stack to consider at the top of the Washington order.

Value

Jarred Kelenic, Atlanta Braves at New York Yankees ($3,100) – Since Michael Harris (hamstring) joined Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) on the IL, Kelenic has taken over as the Braves leadoff hitter and is thriving in his new role. In his six games at the top of the order, Kelenic has gone 9-for-28 (.321) with two home runs, a double and a stolen base to average 11.0 DKFP per game. He remained in the leadoff spot on Friday even against a lefty, and it looks like he’ll continue to get plenty of chances to produce atop a stacked lineup while Harris is out. Getting him at just over $3,000 is a steal based on his upside and prime run-production spot.

Value

Forrest Wall, Atlanta Braves at New York Yankees ($2,200) – Wall is another lefty outfielder in the mix for the Braves and will likely return to the lineup after sitting out Friday night. The 28-year-old lefty went 2-for-5 in his two starts earlier this week after being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett, where he hit .287 with four home runs and 11 stolen bases in 44 games. Wall had a great Spring Training and his speed gives him a high ceiling at barely over the minimum salary. If he’s back in the lineup, he’s a great way to save salary and still have a high ceiling.
