    • Indian telecom operators, through COAI, urged that OTT apps like WhatsApp and Telegram should comply with the Telecommunications Act 2023. They emphasized that these communication services must align with security directives and regulatory oversight, similar to telecom operators, to ensure an equal playing field and curtail security risks.

      Shopify has not given a reason for discontinuing the COD app in India, which is still largely a cash-driven market where several small and medium merchants rely on cash on delivery for their online orders. The company helps small and medium businesses build and sell online stores, has recommended a few alternative apps, including Indian e-commerce enabler GoKwik’s Kwik COD app and COD King.

      The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is launching insurance, mutual fund products, and unsecured digital loans. Partnering with MasterCard for credit card offerings, ONDC aims to provide accessible credit solutions. Since its inception, ONDC has processed over 68 million transactions, promoting financial inclusion and democratizing digital commerce in India.

      "What the country always desires is fair play, is honesty'¦ for the customer, honesty to the supplier of goods and services and to ensure that other people also have a fair chance to compete against such online business," the Union minister, a member of Parliament from the Mumbai North constituency, said.

      Piyush Goyal, India's Commerce Minister, criticized Amazon's $1 billion investment, suggesting it masks predatory pricing and doesn't benefit the economy. He raised concerns about ecommerce disrupting small retailers and questioned a report suggesting no impact on traditional retail jobs. Goyal called for cautious regulation and the need to understand ecommerce's role better.
