Banyan Tree Services Private Limited News

    • Indian telecom operators, through COAI, urged that OTT apps like WhatsApp and Telegram should comply with the Telecommunications Act 2023. They emphasized that these communication services must align with security directives and regulatory oversight, similar to telecom operators, to ensure an equal playing field and curtail security risks.

Telecom companies have pushed for regulators to bring communication apps like WhatsApp into regulatory licensing. They supported the idea for a single Unified Services Authorisation to simplify telecom regulations. Industry bodies had mixed reactions, with some cautioning against structural changes and others urging expansion of ISP license scope.

Global satellite firms have differing stances on the Indian telecom regulator's proposal to merge authorisation regimes for satellite services. While Amazon's Kuiper and others support a unified licence, Starlink, SES, and allies argue for keeping them separate to streamline and clarify current authorisations instead of merging the scopes for better service delivery.

Globalstar, an Apple satcom services partner, announced its intention to enter India's satellite communications market. The Delaware-based company aims to establish a subsidiary and build an earth station gateway. Submitted to Trai, these plans focus on acquiring GMPCS authorisation and regulatory approval, joining other firms like Eutelsat OneWeb and Orbit Connect India.

Goods and services tax authorities have sent notices demanding unpaid GST from more than 20 insurance companies, including HDFC Ergo and Star Health. The Directorate of GST Intelligence found these insurers provided services to SEZ employees and their families without paying IGST, leading to ₹2,000 crore in dues. Companies received show-cause notices after their explanations were deemed unsatisfactory.
