    • Kiren Rijiju did his schooling in Arunachal Pradesh and then went to Delhi for higher education. He enrolled himself at Delhi's Hansraj College from where he graduated in arts and then went on to complete a law degree from Delhi University's Faculty of Law
    • He belongs to a family of politicians and his father was the first pro-term speaker of Arunachal Pradesh. He showed an interest in public affairs from a young age
    • In 2002, at the age of 31, he was appointed as a Member of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, a division of the Government of India
    • In 2004, at the age of 33, he was first elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from the West Arunachal Pradesh constituency, one of the largest in the country
    • As a young MP, he had an attendance of over 90% and actively took part in parliamentary work outside and inside the House. It helped him earn accolades from seasoned colleagues. He took part in many debates and raised several questions of national and international importance
    • In 2 009, he joined the Congress, but lost the Lok Sabha election and later became the advisor to former chief minister Dorjee Khandu

    • While the huge majority of the BJP-led NDA in the last two Lok Sabha meant proportionate share of the chairmanships of the total 24 standing committees too going to the ruling side, the sizable presence of the INDIA bloc this time in the House meant the Opposition side being eligible for a larger number of panel chairmanships and hence the hard negotiations.

Opposition parties opposed the Bill, claiming it violated the Constitution and federalism. A joint committee comprising members from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will review the Bill for further scrutiny.
    • On Thursday, the Indian government withdrew the Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Bill 2014 from the Rajya Sabha. This bill, introduced by former minority affairs minister K Rahman Khan, aimed to establish a mechanism for evicting unauthorized occupants from waqf properties, which are assets dedicated for religious or charitable purposes.
