BSNL gains subscribers in churn after tariff hikes by pvt telcos
As per information shared by BSNL with ET, since July 3-4, when the hike by three private players-Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea-came into effect, some 250,000 customers have ported to the state-run firm from other operators by utilising mobile number portability (MNP).

Reliance Jio maintained its lead over Bharti Airtel by adding 2.20 million mobile users in May, while Airtel followed with 1.25 million additions, as per TRAI data. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea (Vi) faced a loss of 924,797 users, marking its largest decline in three months. Airtel recorded the highest active subscriber percentage at 99.07%. Jio held 40.60% of the wireless market share with 474.62 million users, followed by Airtel at 33.17% with 387.77 million users, and Vi at 18.66% with 218.16 million users.
Govt mulls handing over MTNL operations to BSNL; merger unlikely

Hackers breach BSNL again, second time in six months
This is the second time in six month where BSNL has suffered a data breach. Athenian Tech chief executive Kanishk Gaur told ET, the breach involved more than 278 GB of data from the state-owned telecom operation, including server snapshots, which can be misused for SIM cloning and potentially more severe criminal activities like extortion.
