For the duration of the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, I advised the mission on matters related to health, as well as development and trade (WHO, WTO, UNCTAD, UNAIDS). This included providing input to various international processes, preparing speeches, background and outcome documents and representing the mission, including at negotiations. Throughout the presidency, I helped coordinate EU positions on various matters within international organizations.

My primary focus was on health, in particular on the two major health priorities of the Estonian presidency: cross-border issues on alcohol and e-health, as well as on health systems strengthening following the Tallinn charter.

I also worked on the broader non-communicable diseases (NCDs) portfolio, especially in preparation for the Montevideo Global Conference on NCDs, the 142nd WHO Executive Board Meeting and the 2018 High Level Meeting on NCDs in New York.

Other areas that I worked on are:

    - Antimicrobial resistance, particularly in relation to the High Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance organized by the Estonian Presidency
    - Medicines innovation and access, particularly new R&D models for drugs subject to market failure
    - Universal health coverage as an overarching issue across WHO processes
    - Healthcare workforce planning, particularly related to the Dublin Global Forum on HRH
    - Tuberculosis, particularly related to the Global Ministerial Conference in Moscow
    - HIV/AIDS, particularly around the UNAIDS PCB and the Senior Level Dialogue on HIV/TB organized by the EU Presidency

In WTO and UNCTAD I primarily followed issues related to trade & development and aid for trade.

The Regional Director for Europe is responsible for the wellbeing of 48 independent medical students' associations. This can only be done with the help of a team, which in my case consisted of 12 people, who managed various aspects of IFMSA work from public health to professional exchange. Team leadership and volunteer management skills are essential to running a successful regional team, which consists mainly of volunteer medical students whose impressive talents are matched only by their packed schedules.

In terms of member development, our team's primary focus was on sustainable partnerships and policy work to shape public health locally and globally. We hosted various workshops and produced several guidelines and templates, which reached 82% of our member organizations.

The RD is also responsible for the Regional Meeting, which brings together medical students from the entire region. In my year, the meeting took place in Antalya, Turkey.

It is the job of the RD to help new medical students' organizations join IFMSA. In Europe, the organizations yet to join tend to face complex realities, which the RD must handle. My predecessor oversaw the accession of Kosovo to the IFMSA family, and I was successful in adding a member organization from Northern Cyprus.

Externally, I represented IFMSA to a variety of stakeholders like the European office of WHO, the European Youth Forum, and the European Commission, both to create opportunities for medical students as well as to represent their views on our regional priorities: antimicrobial resistance and the health and rights of refugees and migrants.
